Default Cowl help, please?

I just hit a wall with my cowl. It's a Sig 1/5-scale Annivesary Cub, and I have a Saito 90TS for a powerplant. Imagine my shock and horror when, after painstakingly getting the drive washer hole perferct, and getting the side holes roughed-in to accomodate the opposed jugs... the engine just won't fit! [:@] It's like getting a too-big couch thru the front door! I am wondering if maybe miniature piano hinges would work if I split the cowl, or if anyone has any suggestions for overcoming this. Thanks!

You can split the cowl along its center line. Then, attach plywood tabs to one side, and drill for screw holes in the other side. The cowl can be fitted one side at a time and then fastened together.

In real planes, the cowls don't necessarily slide over the engines - they often hinge from the center line, or are removed completely.

I had a 1/4 scale with a OS 1.20 twin. I could work the cowl onto the engine with it off the plane. Then install the cowl and engine as a unit. It was a pain to get the throttle linkage on, but I did not take it apart very often.

Thought about removing the valve covers, but 1) Did not want to risk getting any fiberglass dust in the valve train, and 2) The valve covers are not very tall in the first place. Looks like the piano hinge method is going to be my solution.... I guess

As usual, Les offers the best way to do it.
