It's been quiet in here for way to long, allowing me to get some work done in the airplane room. After a shamefully long time I finally got flaps and ailerons installed on the Seniorita this afternoon. Now I am 99.98% done with a 6 year build. There is a little fine tuning to do on the control rigging and I decided flap gap seals are a must. Here are the first few pictures I took of it this evening, plus a shot of one of my bigs on the beach last week, just to prove it really is summer-like here now.

That is really nice Skyrat.
I love the way you did the flaps.

Looks like I've been away from RCU too long. When I kept getting virus warning every time I logged in, I just switched to RCG. Hopefully, that is all resolved.

Had my Senior out for the annual fun fly. The day started a little windy, not many were flying, so I decided to take the Senior up. Surely if I can fly that one, all those Extra 300's could fly as well? Well, first time I had her actually flying backwards! Not sure that convinced anyone, but I sure had fun with it. I saved the Edge for later in the evening.

Mine is a stock kit build, but I just ordered a wing kit so I can build a flat wing with ailerons for her. (I couldn't give up the original wing to just do mods.) Any recommendations on what size I should build those ailerons? Has to be barn door style.

The virus warnings mostly stem from where the user movies are stored. I only got those when using Chrome, no other browse gave a warning, so basically a false positive. My understanding is they are actually hosted else where.
I was getting those also. but not anymore. Don't know what changed. Chrome is the only browser I use.

That sounds like some fun flying. years ago i flew out in the desert with a buddy. I was flying a Kadet Jr. It was so windy I could fly backwards or hover in front of me. landing backwards is a bit tricky, but fun.

I have always used strip airlerons on my Kadets # Jrs and 1 Sr. I think the SR has 2" strip airlerons and 50% dihedral.
Barn doors and flaps would be nice, but I have no recommendation on size.

Frise ailerons and Fowler flaps, a turbine can't be far behind.

Count me in. New to this forum stuff. Need help mounting an engine. Has anyone mounted a Magnum XL .52 RFS in a Sig Kadet Senior ARF? If so I am in need of some mounting tips.

Hey redjack - welcome to RCU & the SIG Kadet Brotherhood - gotcha listed with #148. One day I'll probably have a Senior (especially being that I am a "senior") but not yet. There are a buncha guys here, though, that have put everything in Seniors, nearly up to turbines. Somebody's bound to appear with good thinking.

The Brotherhood, as I've got it today:

THANKS GUYS.
Nope, no turbines for me. This Kadet started off as just a simple by the plans build, but I was starting an other scratch designed/built project at the same time and I needed to know how some of the planned design features would work. Sooo... My Seniorita became a test bed for a lot of those ideas, including the Frise ailerons and slotted flaps. The leading edge and aileron/flap bay area is sheeted with heavy poster board under the covering, there is a steerable tailwheel mount buried just under the leading edge of the stabilizer and a lot of other little mods. I haven't done a weigh in yet, but it feels like 4 1/2 pounds. That's a very old Supre Tigre .25 on the front which is going to get a 10X4 prop. It won't be a super hot rod, but that's not my style of flying anyway.

Nergall, the barn door ailerons look attractive, but trust me, they are a real pain to build into a senior or seniorita wing. Those ailerons have set me back almost a year. I will give a full report once I've made a test flight, but I don't think they were worth the effort.

Welcome back Nergall - glad you made it again.

Skyrat, that's a gorgeous plane (actually, both of them). Yeah, right, you've got summer - - what, 65 or so? I'm sitting today out, in the shade, with 93 on the thermometer. Flap-seals on the Kadet - I, for one, would love to see them once you've got 'em mounted.

I gotta plan. I feel like I can just copy the ones I'm building now on a Sopwith Pup. Haven't quite figured out how the hinges will go, but once I do, I can copy the technique on the Kadet.

Hey redjack. What are your concerns with the engine mounting? Other than having the throttle on a 4-stroke close to the firewall, it should pop right in there.

Ah, this one:

Thanks, of course, there is no dimensional information...

I think I'll just make them big, maybe go up to the rear spar?

So who here has hovered an LT-40 in a vertical? This guy! LOL I went vertical to do some hammer heads and wound up keeping it nose straight up for about 10 seconds before it finally flipped over. I did it 3 times. I had increased the rudder throw a bit and that seems to have helped. It just hung there in the sky. What a fun plane.

Congratulations! We are all suitably impressed AND envious!

WHOA!!!! Yeah, that really IS impressive. I've managed it a few times, for maybe 5 seconds, with my Sr. Falcon & MidStar-40 but NEVER have I been able to hold a flat-bottom wing (ANY of my several flat-bottom winged planes) vertical for more than enough time to call it a stall. That really is good.

Been practicing inverted low passes with my Mk-II. Had to angle the engine down just a bit more than I already had it, and I threw in a bit more down capability on the elevator - she does pretty good now. Also, the new engine angle must be at least partly responsible for the fact that her Cuban-8's are much straighter now, as are the slow rolls - much much less corkscrewing involved.

Y'know, it seems like a Kadet can pretty much do anything you'd ever want, short of being a true aerobatic type. Planning to go out again today, maybe see if I can get anything at all close to knife-edge flight out of her. So far, the only planes I've ever been able to knife-edge are the Sr. Falcon & MidStar. Eagle-II won't at all, and she's nearly a clone of the Kadet in sooooooo many ways, so I'm not expecting much more than a valiant attempt. Y'never know though.

One thing I found that she simply WON'T do is a rolling-horizontal-circle - - or maybe I'm just not anything close to good enough with her yet. Anyway, the couple times I've tried it she was all over the sky and I eventually took my own advise from so long ago - y'gotta know your limitations. Anyway, she's still in one piece, I'm still kinda-sorta-semi-sane, and there are no divets in the field... YET!

Nobody who tries a rolling circle with a Kadet MkII can make any claim to sanity!

I just enjoy picking on you Dave. It is a real hoot to pick on old koots.........er nuts like you
.............................er I mean uh uh I enjoy the tails of your flying exploits.. uh yeah thats what I mean.

When the Saito 65 I have in my SR was at it prime in power I could get my SR into knife edge but I could not hold altitude. No luck with the JRs no matter how much power I had up front, but they would spin like tops whereas the SR would only spiral. Got to wonder what low wing Kadet would do?
