If you set the knife down to use a file. Then you set the file down and spend the next 15 minutes trying to find the knife, only to finally find it under the file.

Well you are not a total rookie.....I'd say you are a 6 out of a 10 on my 'devotion' scale In fact I have one box (an old GP Big Stick 60) that is filled with pushrods, nyrods, wire, cables, etc. And it is heavy to boot!

If you dig a bunker under your shed to hide all the new planes.
You don't have to dig in FL.

The real sign you are a kit builder is whenever you have to go someplace in a few minutes, you cycle thru all the items on the build that if I GLUE IT RIGHT NOW, you can go on to the next step when you get back....

No, just wait for the sinkhole to appear.

If you have 2 drill bit pieces broken off inside your foot, and waited till your wife was asleep before going to the ER.

I'm close. I ran a .062 drill through my knuckle. After SHE made me go to the ER, I got frustrated waiting for two hours to see a doc, I did what John Wayne would do...Stiff drink of whiskey, squeezed neosporin through the hole till it squirted out the other side, another drink and a band aid.

Yikes. I used to hunt a lot. Not so much now. I was hunting with a guy that while skinning a wild hog, stuck his skinning knife in the top of this thigh down to the bone. He walked back to the camp. Calmly sat down and opened an bottle of Maker's Mark. Took a good drink and poured the next shot into the gaping wound in his leg. He then tied a bandage around his thigh. End of story.
Me and him would get along fine

If you disconnect the door bell so that your wife is not tipped off by the UPS guy dropping off another build. Then pretend to take out the trash to hide it.

squirrly , i see that is your first post? And I like it... your name, and your post reminds me of a story I HAVE to share. Off subject, but funny.

I used to work at a dairy, one of the old door to door delivery guys told me that someone was , opening quarts of chocolate milk at one guys house, drinking them, then leaving the carton on the porch, so after awhile the driver gets tired of this. So he makes the usual stop early EARLY in the morning.. he keeps driving back with his binoculars to try and catch the guy from the distance.. he finally does ! a Squirrel comes up on the porch and has figured out how to open the carton the right way, it then knocks it over and drinks until full leaving the rest to run off the porch into the grass.

I just had to add this to the thread.

As to the scratch builder aspect, I used to live in a small apartment , and the bigger of the two rooms was my shop :P Sometimes I would have so much balsa trimmings and dust on the floor it would look like a horse stall with fresh wood chips down.

.......for 30 years you've kept empty Wanderer glider, Bridi Trainer 40 and Great planes Super Sportster 40 kit boxes in the same spot over the work bench at your parents house, somehow never getting up the nerve to throw them away.

you know you're a true scratch/kitbuilder when you take a part-time job cause you know you'll have more time to build....I've had the part-time almost three years and got lots of planes built...LOL..LMAO..I work in the medical field but my part-time is security so I sit in a booth and watch a gate.. I spend approx 6-7 hours building and the shift is 8 hrs long....LOL...

You might be a kitbuilder if you have a garage that holds more than one car but only one fits. And it requires the driver to crawl out the window when pulling it in because the door won't open because of all the airplanes and paraphernalia stacked up! OK this isn't my garage SWMBO wouldn't stand for it but it does sound like my buddy's garage!

Lol. In the extended version Blues Brothers DVD, that's exactly what Elwood does when parking it in an El substation. Has to climb on the roof to get out. The backstory has the stray voltage from the substation giving the cars its amazing powers of handling, jumping, etc.

Your wife complains that you don't spend enough time with the family, so the living room coffee table becomes your new work bench.

Your knife rolls off you table and sticks in your bare foot and instead of crying out in pain or saying some choice words you reach for your camera.

You might be a Kitbuilder if :

You glue you finger to the fuse and it takes you 15 minutes to get it unglued using your x-acto knife.

I did this 3 days ago. Some CA flowed from the inside of the fuse through a crack and right on my finger and glued it before I noticed it.
I used the x-acto knife to slowly unstick my finger. Of course I left a layer of fingerprint on the fuse.

Am I a real kit builder if I have not bought debonder yet?

Later all!

I prefer something more inspiring like the opening sequence from Where Eagles Dare or The Blue Max!

Wow! That big man turned that guitar inside out! Good sounds, just not as good to look at as Zepperella!
