Very nice Vincent. I was thinking about the painting jig myself for when the time comes. I was thinking of trying to make a jig that uses the wing dowels and the mouting holes to mount the wing so I could paint it easier. Thats a fantastic looking shop. I wish I had an area like that to work in!

Thanks Robert, David and Anthony. It was a lot of work but it was worth it...
Decided that I would play around with the cockpit coaming. Included in the kit is a length of 1/2" diameter white foam cockpit coaming which I didn't use, I thought it looked a bit to overbearing, so I opted for some smaller diameter vacuum tubing instead which can be purchased at any auto parts store. I just simply sliced it down the middle with a single edge razor blade and slipped it on. I didn't glue it in at this time because I want to remove it later so it will be out of the way to install the instrument panel. Friction alone holds it well enough where it isn't even necessary to glue it in place.

Wow that looks nice. I have quick question though, do you have any tips for how to cut a straight line on that round tubing? It may sound silly, but I seem to have a difficult time getting a good, straight cut when trying to cut round tubing like that without it ending up with a bit of an "s" shape in it when I am done. I have my ideas, just wonder if you have any tips. I have resorted to using a small piece of angled aluminum, and putting the tubing in the corner of it, and using the aluminum edge as a guide to cut it straight. It works fairly well, but just thought I would ask.

David, there are vacuum tubing cutters which do a nice job of giving a straight cut, I have one at work and I can photo it for you if you like. I didn't use it for this application. I do have an idea for you that may work though. Get a piece of aluminum angle stock, maybe something about 2x2 or larger. Then using a hack saw cut at the corner of the stock down but not all the way through. The kerf that is left could be used to insert a single edge razor blade to make square cuts.

Here are some pictures of today's work. The rudder and elevator hinges have been epoxied into place as well as completing the pin striping on the wing. I still have to paint the stripes on the ailerons and paint the landing gear. I am looking forward to having the painting done!

You wait until you see the closeups of Private Ryan and you will see why he is holding off. Absolutely stunning. VJ does not cut corners. Now if I can get my perfectionist son to download the pictures onto my computer I might be able to show you. Great job Vince on all your planes. What are you going to build for Top Gun?

Thanks Cliff, I'm looking forward to seeing those photos! Thanks Tom, it's amazing what a difference a little tape makes...
Went to my shop this morning and completed the rest of the painting. Good to have it all done, it took me longer to clean the gun than to spray the parts!

VincentJ it's easy to see how you spent your Labor Day, great paint job scheme, will be a beauty in the air as well. Hope to have my kit this week, you make me eager to build but the vacation comes first.
Have to say thanks again for this wonderful build presentation.

Thanks Leroy, the weather in these parts was pretty much uncooperative to do anything outdoors, sooo workshop it was...the push is on to get this one finished because soon I'll be busy raking leaves!.

Man this site jumps all over hell any more, and slow, "hope they can get it up and running smooth soon".
Vincent the weather is changing here some also, there is fall in the air. We have had a long hot summer and I'm hoping for a Indian summer extension but there will be some storms to come. You have a pretty plane now so will be watching for video or flight report and expect it will go well.
I have my kit, just came, so will go see whats ahead.

Looking forward to seeing your build Leroy, and who knows looks like Steve may join you! Bid high bid often Steve...
Spent almost three hours in getting the throttle linkage and adjustment the way I wanted. I also installed the pull-pull cable for the rudder and got the tail wheel functioning with the rudder. The method suggested in the manual was not used as I like the way this works and looks. You can also see how and where I attached the bottom of the tail brace wires, again I did not use the mounting location indicated on the plans as I chose to use one of the tail wheel cap head screws as an anchor...

VJ, that looks stupendous! Can't wait for the maiden.
Leroy, I know what you mean about this site. I just logged in again because I deleted my cookies and it took me back to the beginning of the thread! The picture thing is messed up as well. I'm just posting my next build on RCG, this one is just too cumbersome now. And on a personal note, Leroy; bikes?! Someone else that's into biking as well? Cool! Might have to PM you about that later.
Sorry VJ, just had to get that in. So, I hope you get your videographer lined up soon!
(Edit: I really hate these emoticons too!)
