Default Robart hinge question

Hi All, Just started my new project "Stinson Reliant giant scale" and it looks like a good tough project,I have the elev. and stab. mostly finished as to the plans.Top Flite suggests Robart 310 super hinges and when I size the hinge to the elev and stab. the tip of the hinge sticks out about 1/4"to about 3/8" beyond the hinge blocks my question is should I beef up the hinge blocks so the hinge bottoms out on wood which seems right to me.Thanks for any help Nick R.

You dont need 100% coverage of the pins, as long as 3/4 of it is in the wood you will be fine. A plus to it is if you get a glob of Epoxy on the pin outside the wood block it will hold it even better. You can add the to block if it makes you feel better, but you are just going to be adding weight to the tail which is not always a good thing.
