Sorry to hear about your issue with BUSA but I have to say that I have not had an issue with their tech support when I've needed it.

You can get a clean set of plans and manual (I always like to keep an untouched set of plans around) at 1/4 Scale J-3 Cub Plans and Instruction Manual . It would cost you about the same to have a set copied at an Office Supply store anyway. Other than that, I can't offer any help as I don't have a BUSA Cub to refer to.

arb 566, I am sorry for the late response, been out of town this past week. Not sure about your question. Do you have an engine or motor in mind to install on the Cub? I have a 1/4 scale BUSA Cub with a Zenoah 38 gas engine. Based on this engine, it required me to move the firewall back to match the prop hub shown on the plans. Do you have the plans? if so , measure the distance fro the prop hub to the firewall. This will give a scale look to the airplane. Move the firewall back or forward to get this look. This is my Super Cub, I made the cowl and added flaps, just made some changes. Seems like I alway have had a Cub in my fleet of airplanes.







This is My Super Cub II, built in '09, still flyin', I use it to take photos and use flyin' fun. The Zenoah 38 provides plenty power, really enjoy flyin' it.

As I said in my last post all I want is a single simple measurement, firewall to thrust face. I will buy a set of plans if I have to but as the plane is complete it seems senseless for 1 measurement. I am hoping there is one person here that wouldn't mind unrolling their plans for the 1/4 scale cub, picking up a ruler and posting this one measurement.

Don't get excited ……. this thread seems to have slowed down. I haven't gotten any notifications for a month or two......don't know what the problem has been.
I just went out to the shop and measured on my Cub - looks to be about 5 & 1/2 inches from the firewall to the front of the cowl. Mine is a swap meet find which had been rebuilt so I cannot be sure
that something hasn't been changed from the original build.

I may have found a cowl for the beast and if I get it I will see if 5 1/2" makes sense. If anyone can confirm this from a set of plans it would be a bonus. Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

Al, if the cowl does not work out, I'll look in my unused parts. I think I may have one, not sure but I will check. Also I can show you how to make one with stirow (MS)foam. Let me know what you need.

Thanks for the reply Rich, I may definitely be interested in the cowl. The fellow that has offered one admits it's a bit cut up from fitting a couple of different engines,I'm waiting for some pics. If you find yours please let me know what you would like for it. I'm up here in the great white north (British Columbia) but postage is usually fairly reasonable for small packets.
I've made a couple of cowls in the past glassing over a shaped foam block taped to the firewall with the fuse protected from the overlap by plastic wrap. Is that the system you're referring to?

Yes, only I use fiberglass and finish epoxy to cover the foam. Once it is set up, I break it away from the firewall and use small amounts of gasoline to remove the foam. Both of my Cubs in the pictures above this is how I made the cowls.

Good to hear from both you guys. It has been very hot and humid this year and that hurts my breathing. I feel for you Berry, I know how you feel when you can't make it to the flyin' field. Hang in there we both will have better days
