Lazy Ace 76" - Chuck Cunningham
Slow but steady building process of a Cunningham's Lazy Ace 76 inch wingspan.
Currently building this beautiful biplane. This is my fourth kit build (Fourstar 40, Eaglet 50, Eagle II in that order) and first biplane. I fell in love with the model when I saw it.
For several months kept chasing a kit until I found one on the Classifieds of another well know forum. Kit I think was partiall since I had to make the stab ribs from scratch, maybe 25% of the wood in the kit was not usable as well.
I did traced new plans in cad just to aid in the build and preserve the original plans, that already looked like an old 1600's pirate's treasure map.
This biplane will be powered with an RCGF20cc twin (originally designed for a .61 , Chuck alter recommended a .91), will be covered with koverall and dope and I'll add a few scale details as a practice for alter projects.
Hope you enjoy the pics as mch as I;m enjoying the build.
Regards

The box you see in the pics is the one I received with the kit, no inner box, just that, maybe older than me (I'm 45 yo.)

My Feedback: (3)
The Lazy Ace is one of my all-time favourites. Mine is powered with a YS 1.20 first generation 20 years old still flying great through several changes and upgrades. First was covered camo hard to see at dusk, then red and white and last yellow with a Midwest Texan canopy and inverted engine and homemade cowl. I even made a large single float with two outriggers floats on the wings. Increased the elevator and rudder by 40 percent for glider towing gliders from either a saddle mounted on the top wing or tow-line from the cradle depending on size and weight. I made a box that opens on both ends (air flows through) that fits on top of the saddle, and it allows me to spread the ashes from cremation while doing loops and rolls. Have done this several times over the field for fellow pilots on request of the family, and twice over the family farm of dear friends. Other than the increased tail feathers, the only change I might make would be the version with semi symmetrical wings and 4 ailerons. Yes, there are some plans for that version and I believe kits were sold at one time.
It never really mattered what changes I made as long as I kept the CofG the same that airframe flew just fine. Even with a change in weight it never gave any problem.
Releasing ashes over the field.
