Default Ultracote problem

Hi guys,

never had a problem applying covering before but am having issues now. I’m using some ultracote that I have had for a couple of years and when applying it is very difficult to use. Appears quite stiff and doesn’t seem to be shrinking evenly, so I’m ending up tearing the sticky mess back off. Also getting horrible wrinkles. It almost looks like I’m heating cellophane. This is all very strange. Could it be that the ambient temperature is too low as it’s winter here in Australia? I’m using all the recommended temps on iron but for some reason it feels stiff and isn’t going on like I remember.

Are you sure it's Ultracote? There was some bad Monokote several years back that acted just like you are describing.

It’s definitely ultracote. I have used some off these rolls with no problem before. Just seems to have gone bad.

I've had a similar problem with older UltraCote and ended up throwing away several large / long (expensive) rolls because it simply didn't apply and stick to itself as newer rolls do. I much prefer Monokote but sadly it isn't like it once was either. Buy some new covering and see how it works for you. A friend tried some of the cheap HK covering for his last two builds and found it quite acceptable. That might be an alternative.
