Default sig hog-bipe question...

I'll be using ultracote to cover the hog-bipe and wasn't sure about the abs rear turtledeck behind the cockpit. Did you hog-bipe builders use an iron-on covering for that section, and if so, did you do anything special to prep that piece? Or did you use ultracote paint instead?

Thanks...

Jeff...

Anything special you had to do to the abs to prep it for the paint? How did you manage to match it to the covering or did you spray the entire plane? Which brand did you use? Lastly, since I'll be using a glow engine, what did you use to clear coat the paint?

Thanks...

I sheeted mine with 1/16 balsa, using glue to attach and covered with Monocote to match. Gotta admit, it wasn't the easiest thing to do but it looks fine. Just watch the heat when covering as the plastic doesn't have a high temp rating

My flying companion said, "It's not a scale model", and omitted the ABS part from his Hog. Looks and flies great without it.

Thanks for the tip, Bob; never thought of that. Dave, you make a good point. Gives me another option...

I used ultracote and covered right over ithe backrest. The plastic is thick and as long as you don't leave the iron in one spot forever you'll be fine. Heat, stretch and apply.

Cheers!

Thanks, Jollidude. I may give that a try. It sounds like the easiest way to get it done. I ws hoping to get it in the air b4 the cold winds blow here near Chicago, but may have to wait until spring.....
