is this any good? i am lookin to build it after trainer on realflight G2 for about 6 months, but this is my FIRST BUILD
i just want to actually build cuz i am kinda against just putting a wing on in a RTF and maybe could someone suggest and ARF
my uncle is an EXPERT builder and i could get help, just i wanna build one my own, not just put together in 10 minutes and fly. no fun there
I am lookin for a pretty aerobatic plane, under 80" wingspan and on the cheap side ( everything ya need for under 400 )
thanks for any suggestions
lookin forword to it

No, it is a terrible first plane. You want to get something you can learn to fly. That might be a good third plane, but this isn't the first plane. The skybolt is not an easy plane to fly. It isn't easy to build either.
Get yourself a Falcon III or Eagle II or something equivelent, learn to build it, get help from the uncle where needed, and learn to fly. Get a good advanced second plane, and then maybe you will be ready for the bipe.
You may be able to finish building this one with a lot of help, but it wouldn't last long trying to learn to fly on it.

try this, the four star series is good value and a great place to start your building, or if you want something even more aerobatic look at the somethin' extra.
I bought the superskybolt as my first build and ruined it, it was too much fo me as a first build, maybe not for others.
my 2 cents though is that the four star is an excelent place to start building and build a little confidence. I built one and now I've built the somethin extra too, you can see that in this forum under "second kit, kinda proud of this"

I would suggest you spend $10.00 on a guillos kit and build it. That will give you a good idea as to how they are all built. Hang it from the ceiling and go get any plane you want and just take your time building it. Please do yourself a favor and go to your club and buy someones used trainer to learn on while you build your first kit. Mostly-have fun!

well thats good that you know how, but you should still buy you a trainer and fly it a while because it's totally different in the field. Buy a trainer kit rather that way you are learning how to build at the same time

Tower kills me. You look at ANY kit they have and none of them are difficult to build.. Even the corsairs (with the gull wing!!) "can be built easily by modelers with moderate experience"... BULL!!!!! If you have never built ANYTHING, start out with something easy, like a LT-40 or 4-Star or even better a BTE Venture 60

The last kit will take you forever in relation to the aerobatic abilities and your interest in flying it will last hours not years. The extra will be very aerobatic but you'll be very frustrated in learning to fly it -ie. it will take forever. The G2 doesn't allow for the freaks of nature.
If you want a pleasant and successful experience building and flying buy the SIMPLEST kit that is moderately aerobatic. DO NOT read the adds too closely - they are out to sell their planes - they can't all be the greatest or they would all be the same. The 4stars are amazing airplanes. I once taught a kid with sight in one eye(poor depth perception) to fly on one in less than a month. Besides it doesn't matter how careful you are the first plane is going in sometime soon.
Most beginners think they can jump right in and build a 33% fire breathing aerobatic, retracting gear, 12 servo, etc., etc. plane because that is what interests them the most. Start simple and small, work up in steps and you will become more adept sooner. Take it from me, I am a tech teacher who has been teaching teenagers to build everything and anything for years.
You are a teenager - aren't you? Good luck and go small steps.

The old timer is a bad choice for two reasons:
1) It's not an easy Build
2) It has no ailerons, so aerobatics are out of the question.
I won't waste my time telling you to get a trainer (which is what you should do) because you are dead set about skipping that step.
You say you have some experience, but an Extra 300 (Or something of that caliber) will be a pile of broken sticks before you can say "What Happened?"
Here is a list of kits to look at. They are good for building and flying, and quite aerobatic.
SIG 4 Star 40
Goldberg Tiger II
Great Planes Easy Sport
Goldberg Falcon MKII
And one more that is a little more advanced:
Sig Something Extra

I've got an A-7 Ducted Fan with all radio gear except the transmitter that I will ship to you for $300.00! You will have $100.00 left over for a park flyer or something. If you dont want a trainer, you might as well crash something that at least looks good your first time. Good luck

True story, a friend of mine, airforce pilot, managed to teach himself how to fly an R/C trainer. A PT-40 to be exact. Although the flights were not perfect at least he managed to bring it in one piece. Ok, the accomplishment raised his ego even more than what a typical fighter pilot has it already. So a guy in the club had a beautiful Christen Eagle for sale and my friend bought it. Every member of the club including myself asked him to wait until he was more proficient with the trainer or maybe get a nice low winger to smooth the transition. But of course he didnt listen, after all he is a fighter pilot and he just proved he didnt need isntruction with the trainer so he decided to fly it on its own. He calls me to meet him at the field early on saturday because he is going to fly it regardless what anyone think. When I got to the field I see him walking on the other side of the runway.......?????......by the time I got close to see what was going on I see him picking up the tail of the Christen eagle about 20 ft from the rest of the debris. He told me he managed to keep it in the air for about a minute.......I guess he though it was like riding a bronco, you get points for the time even if you get thrown on the ground. [sm=rolleyes.gif]

4 star fourty is a good kit may not look all that great but is good. also take a look at the Tower Kaos kit. Good flight habits. And does good arobatics. Do not get the SkyBolt I had one and it is VERY Hard to biuld I can not biuld one. Had one and just never finished it. Get a 4 star or koas and after you are flying the balls off of it them get a extra or something that is very nimbel or like on its toes. I would say get a size kit you want 46 or a 60 size. And stick with that. Have fun looking

. an excellent list of first models if I may say so Minnflyer!
The choice for our friend here is quite easy. He can fly an aerobatic plane for a few seconds or a trainer for hours, and learn some pretty good aerobatics in the process.

It seems to be a common problem with rookies. They want to jump ahead of their abilities. Flying RC should be done in steps, to guaranty success. Each step gives new building and flying experience. If you miss a step or two, it's easy to get frustrated. When this happens, they usually quit.
This hobby is a long-term deal. It has much to offer. There is no need to rush. Time needs to be taken to enjoy every level and to help gain focus on which direction we want to take.

I guess Im one of the begginers that actually listened. I bought a trainer witha flat bottom airfoil, then I bought a trainer with a semi -symetrical airfoil.....now ive got my first plane with a semi-symetrical airfoil thats a tail dragger (rascal 40). I figured people werent just warning me for nothing.....
