Default Sig Clipped Wing Cub

hi all, i have a old sig cub kit that needs to be completed. i decided to make it a clipped wing cub. this is the old 108" wing cub. my question is.....i shortened the wing by 2 ribs per side and am getting ready to do the ailerons. should i shorten the ailerons or remove 2 more ribs per side toward fuse? and leave the ailerons their full length? ty......-Tinman-

Default Sig Clipped Wing Cub

Tinman, Over the winter I built a Sig Clipped win Cub ( small version). I am using a Saito 56 on it. The wing span is 56" and each aileron is approx 16 1/4" Hope this helps you.

Default Clipped wing ailerons

You are on track. I have built a several of the 1/4 Scale Sig kits, full and clipped. Keep the ailerons full length. Once built, they are excellent flyers and very strong.

Default Shortening wings

Tinman,

That was the correct way to do it. When the wings are clipped on the full size airplane, they remove the bays from the wing root so that the ailerons (and their mounts) stay untouched.

Default Sig Clipped Wing Cub

Hey Tinman, I have a 1/4 Scale Sig Clipped wing thats 15 years old. I've worn out three engines, two 108 O.S.s and one O.S. 90. The fourth engine soon to be installed. The ship now weighs 16 lbs and flys very scale like with a .90 but with real authority with a 108. Enjoy! Widgeon

Default Cliped wing Cub

Mariano Alafara from Detroit campaigned a Sig 1/4 scale C.W. Cub weighing in at 16lbs. He flies it - beautifully I might add - with an OS 160 twin. Part of the scale beauty was the dummy cylinders that made it look like a quad, with real valve covers. Beautiful starburst pattern. I think it was on a cover of MA. I had a chance to meet him and Dave Pinagar when they were down for Top Gun a few years ago. Very interesting guys to have over for dinner and hangar talk in the garage. Andy Levy
