Default 4*40 complete

Here is my 4* that I have been working on for 3 weeks. The yellow and flame red are ultra-cote and the white is monocote. After using ultra-cote I don't think i'll ever use monocote again for the base covering. Only mod is the dual aileron servos. I was going to put flames on the wings but I got too impatient . I'll save that for a later project. The pilot is Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss. My wife bought the plane for me and wanted me to use him as the pilot........I hope he can fly good.

Please elaborate. Was it easier to use?

Yeah it was much easier to use. I've used MK on 3 planes now. In every one there have been wrinkles. You can't get those out if you are using MK. I also have a Sig SE that was covered using MK and the turtle deck looks like crap b/c the MK didn't shrink well. With UC you iron the edges down at about 220 - 250 degrees and then take a heat gun and shrink it. Any wrinkles shrink out even the ones where the covering is stuck to itself. The turtle deck was SOO MUCH easier to cover with UC also. Just seal the sided, front and back with the iron then let the heat gun do the rest. Only complaint I have about UC is they don't have maroon color. Since I goto Mississippi State (maroon and white) it's pretty much an essential.

I'll agree.

Ultra coat is much easier than Monokote. Easier to apply, less 'bleed' when sealing edges, less 'off gassing' and definitley less wrinkles.

Monokote has teh weight of advertising and marketing behind them. And that creates teh illusion that their product is superior.. My opinion at least!!

Hey Chris the 4*40 looks great!!! When are you going to do a maiden or would you like me to come up and try it out for you? I can bring my 4*60 and we can have a good time. Maybe my buddy and I can come up and zoom around up there with you.

UltraCoat is easier to apply than MK. I covered my 4*60 in MK, but I covered my Fat Free Taco in UC. It was much easier. UC is less tolerant to heat though, but that is easily fixed by turning down the heating iron.

Chris we almost look like twins. Big brother and little brother. You did an excellent job on the dual servos.

By the way Chris, I completed my Fat Free Taco that I was telling you about. It is covered in Black and White UC. The fuse and graphics are red MK. Black lettering on the elevator are UC.

Forgot to add that the only problem I had was that one of the 15 sig easy hinges on the plane didn't take to the ca. Was fully wet with thin CA. glued itself into the elevator but not the stabilizer. I had to cut the hinges out and redo the slots.....ARGH stupid ca hinges.

I have a Great Planes "Slot Machine." Only $20 (Tower) and makes perfect hinge slots.

Well my new bird flew for the first time today. It was the first time I had seen a kit I built fly. What a great feeling it was. She flies straight as an arrow and stalls with just a little nose down no wing dip or anything. Thanks to DTB who tested it for me. After he flew maiden and I calmed down a bit we buddy corded up and he took it off. After he put it into the pattern I flew circles around the field. I made one approach to test it at low speed then I came in for landing. I tell ya this bird flies so well. He asked me if I wanted to try and take it off but I decided not to tempt fate and left it at a few patterns and a landing.

Congrats Chris, I tell you that bird is a sweet flyer. It only needed very little adjusting once I got it in the air. No bad habbits that I saw.

I hope you enjoy it...
