Default Hinge question

I am building a Greatplanes Extra 330s. It is .60 size and comes with the nylon hinges that you cut 1"X1" and glue into position with CA glue. Recently on rc universe i discovered Robart hinges and they look much supirior to the nylon ones icluded in my kit. Is there anyway to incorporate these into my Extra? Or should i just go with what the kit came with to avoid any problems?

Thanks anyone

The Robarts will work fine in the solid surfaces, but you will want to glue a block in the areas such as trailing edge of the wing where the hinge will poke through and have only the thin trailing edge strip to glue to.

Welcome to RCU.

Take a look at, the plane is GP Extra 60. I am very happy with the outcome.

Very good advice. The blocks also help to keep glue from getting pushed back through the holes and spilling out onto the inside of the covering of the model when you install the Robarts.

Robarts worked pretty good for me. The problem I ran into using there jig is that it is still hard to get the holes square and straight. Then there is the issue of the bulge near the hinge, you have to enlargen the hole to accommodate it. There is no factory tool for this. So you make do with a dremel. Not exact. Wish Robart would build a high quality jig and hole tool. Think a drill press might be the way to go. I might try something like the Dubro hinges with pins next time. You can run piano wire through the hinges to align it and secure it. Then to remove the control surface you pull the piano wire. Sounds kinda good.

I have not had the problem with the jig you describe. Maybe the jig you have is loose at the rivets? As for the thicker part of the hinge near the knuckle, I use a small rat tail file. About 10 seconds per hole and they are perfect.
