HELLO GENTLY MEN, CURRENTLY I'M WORKING ON MY SUPER DECATHLON. IT IS ABOUT 75% COMPLETED, I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING THE TRIANGLE STOCK THE MANUAL MENTIONED ON PAGE # 27 #3 PARAGRAPH, IS THIS SUPPOSE TO SUPPORT THE STABILIZER, I WAS CHECKING OUT THE WORK PHOTOS IN THIS TREAD AND I DON'T SEE THE TRIANGULAR .5"BY 12" STOCK, THEY SAY TO CUT IN TWO 6" PIECES, ARE THOSE PIECES FOR SUPPORT OF STAB, YOUR RESPONSE IS APPRECIATED, CRUZ, MRQS OR ANY ONE WORKING ON THE SAME KIT.

Hi,

In fact, there is a triangle stock used. On the first attempt I ruined mine, because cut it on the wrong side, so had to get a new one..haha
Just cut it on half, round the corners as per plans and glue it under horizontal stab.

The plane doesn't neccesairly need to be doubled up on the servos. The synchronizers are able to have up to four servos for one channel. I'm just going to use it as a replacement for y-harnesses. This way I can ajust the zero for each servo independently. On a y-harness this is not possible. So basically I'll have two servos for the ailerons and two for the elevator. One snychronizer will have two servos going to it.

Hi Cruz

In my case, I'm not going to use servo synchronizer.
My transmitter have "2 servos elevator" function, so servos would be connected to 2 different channels and set independently.
I can use mixer as well. It's an other method to avoid Y harness usage

Hope to do the first flights on sunday. I Killed the germlins, got the plane balanced, and the engine broke in. Even after a lot about 12oz of lead in the nose, my final weight is 14 lbs 2 oz. My OS 1.20 fired up for the first time at 1/2 a turn and ran perfectly. The only downside is that I do not have a 90 degree exhaust header to direct the exhaust out the bottom of the cowl, so initial flights will be done minus cowl.

Your final weight is remarkable! Specs show 16 to 18 pounds, you have done a masterful job of building light. Mine is 16 1/4 pounds with a G38, no additional weight anywhere. Mine flies well, and so should yours with the lighter wing loading. Let us know how she flies. Good luck.

Yeah, I keep my digital calipers in it's case all the time.

Not to get off subject too much but I finally got my .60 Extra 300S flying this week. It's a great feeling to get back flying. I found time away from the work bench, school, and work to go flying. I'm using a Saito100 with a 15X6 APC. I still haven't tweaked the engine all the way out cause I'm still slowly breaking the engine it. I'm running about 8900-9000 rpms right now. The saito100 tacks out at 9300. I know that if I can fly this thing the decathlon will be a piece of cake.

Flight Report Below !!!!!!!!

Me and the Decathlon spent some quality time at the flying feild today. My first impression was how straight the plane tracked on take off,. I just lined the plane up on the center line and added power, the plane went right down the middle with no rudder input. The plane flies very well on both high and low rates, but if you want to do a decent roll you need the high rates. My engine isn't near as big as everybody else's ( an OS 1.20 ) but the Decathlon had a very nice flying speed and was well powered any where between full and half throttle. The only performance limitation I had was in vertical, point the nose up and the plane slows down quickly (just like the real one. ) The plane lands flawlessly, just keep a little power as your decending and it will land like a butterfly with sore feet. The second flight had a little more excitement. Shortly after takeoff I lost the use of my right alerion (the servo extension caught on something inside the fuselage and it disconnected.) I didn't forget to plug in completily because it was also disconnected inside of the right wing. Fortunately the useless alieron was stuck in a more or less neutral position. After a couple of very big laps around the feild I set her down for another light as a feather landing.

Hey,

is anybody out there?

Here is an actual look of my Decathlon:

I just installed wing struts. Now only painting of landing gear, ballance and finishing of wing struts yet to be done before first motor start.

I can't buy anywhere around a hand fuel pump (any type - the best and not expensive is a "bulb" from Dubro).

greetings

Marek

All of your planes look amazing! This is my first build, so I am deeply humbled. I did not know there were this many people building this kit at the same time. I started my SD back in Sept 04 and just finished it today at 11:32pm! I weighed in a little heavy with 17lb 14oz. This is due to the consideable upgrades I did to the rear fuse section. I hope to get it in the air sometime this month. Thanks, now I know I'm not the only one spending all their money on R/C!

Hi LawnDart777,

thanks for "good word" about our birds. Yes, we're same freaks as you spending all money on models..haha
I would suggest you, to reinforce landing gear with piano wire 4-5mm in diameter. As some people reported - it bends quite easily.

Today, I started my ZDZ 40RV first time. What a power! I hope my 18x10 prop will not have too high pitch
Probably, this weekend I'll maiden my Decathlon.

Hello mRqS, Nice looking model! But I had to download the pict into my MS "Paint" to invert it to see.........OOps looking back a page or two I did see it upright. QUESTION: Did you do anything extra to reenforce the firewall to be able to handle the ZDZ's power? I am considering a ZDZ for their Chipmunk. Thanks

Hi

I did some modifications to be able to install zdz. This was an reinforcements as well.
Please, look at pictures on my site with details about it: http://rc.marekszulen.net .
Additional thing I did, was to use triangle stock to reinforce firewall mounting in the fuselage.

below, few pics from my site

Default RE: Building a Dynaflite Super Decathlon

After reading this "U-build-it," I am going to build the dynayflite super decat. Has anyone given thought to putting the elevator/rudder servos in the rear of the fuselage?

Intended power is saito 1.50 due to weight and overall fuel costs.

Downloaded the build manual from dynaflite's web site, the manual sez use two 15 foot rolls of covering, the ad in tower big book sez four rolls of 6 foot covering. Not the cost mind you, but which length is more usable? (Less scrap.)

Color scheme in mind is balck on the bottom of the fuse, white/black center stripe, yellow on the rest of the plane.

Anyone know where the starbusrt trim might be obtained?

Hate like the dickens to have to make two or three sets (and botch them up) to get one usuable set.

All suggestions will be apprecaited.

Hi Gary,

I installed servos like "factory say's". In my trim scheme I had to purchase 6m of yellow and 4m of dark blue. Starburst trim I made according to plans using corel draw and a cutting plotter so it was quite easy. The most difficult part was engine mount. I had to invent a new one for my engine (ZDZ 40RV).
There was a lot of sanding with winglets.

btw, probably tomorrow will be a "big day" for my bird.
Previous days I just played with engine on the ground and did some taxis only. Everything seems to be ok.
