Default Goldberg Tiger 60 or Sig 4 Star

I am interested in building either the Goldberg Tiger 60 or Sig 4 Star 60. I have had feedback on the Sig, how does the Tiger 60 stack up?

The Tiger 60 is every bit as good, IMO. I have built 3, all with retracts. You will be very happy with the Tiger, especially with the retract option.

You will like a Goldberg Tiger 60. Mine weighs 7.5 Lbs and my friends 4-60 weighs 8 Lbs.

This is a tough question. I have both and I would have to lean towards the Tiger. I have one that has hundred's of fights on it and it really needs to be retired and replaced. The 4 star is also a great plane and my son and I practice formation flying with them, but I think my favorite is the Tiger. Good Luck, Dave

Hello; My only beef with the Tiger is that it's hard to pick up after every flight. Impossible even, the canopy is right over the c of g, and unless you hand the reciever to someone so that you can use both hands, there's no way to pick the thing up to carry it back to the pits. Now you might think that that is not enough reason to dislike a plane, especially in light of it's good flying manners and (some think) good looks, but you have to pick the thing up after every flight, since where I fly you are not allowed to taxi back to the pits. There used to be a fellow at our field who would install a cupboard door handle on the top of all his models. At first I thought it looked pretty bad, but after struggling with a Tiger, I understand.

The four star 60 doesn't have this problem at all and can be easily picked up with one hand. I believe that Sig considered this when they designed the four star series.

I just build and I am presently flying a tiger 60.... it is an excellent plane, easy to build and convertable to tail dragger or leave it as a trike if you want. (instuctions showed you what to do either way).

I have had both planes, in the .40 size. I think the Tiger flew better, but I liked both planes. The 4*60 though is the easiest building plane I have ever had--I have built 2. With the exception of gluing the four spars together (two for each wing half) in the early construction steps, no glue is used until the ribs, spars, and cross braces are installed. Then just go back and dribble some thin CA onto the connections. The whole thing locks together, no cap strips, sheeting or sheer webs to install. There are sheer webs, but they are an ingenious design. You really have to build one to appreciate the brilliance of the Sig designers. The .40 and the 1.20 size are both conventional D tube construction and not nearly as elegant as the .60. One of the replies to this thread indicated the Tiger was lighter than the 4*. I'm not disputing his facts, but the 4* can really be built light. Just my $.02. Good luck.

Greg
