After tossing around between silkspan, silk and Monokote to cover a Pilot Zlin Akrobat 20-size, I will probably cover it with Monokote. It's more readily available here than the other two, and I then it weight less (maybe?).

The question here is can Monokote be spray painted with something like acrylic lacquer or fuel-proof paint? And if it is over open framework, when the paint cracks later on?

I once had a Goldberg Cub that had the stips painted on with latex paint. Rough the area to bepainted with fine steel wool, tach and paint. Paint out-survived the airplane. For some reason the painted areas never seemed to sag (wrinkle) either

I've used Tremclad over Ultracote. Two light, even coats. Looks good, no problems

I picked the wrong two colors for my trainer after I crashed it, Light pearl Blue and Pearl white. It was real pretty, but you can't see it in the air. I decided rather than recover I would just repaint. I used the luster-cote dark red over the blue, and with a light clear coat it turned out beautifully. Just make sure you go over the monocoat wit some 400 grit and then clean it off with rubbing alcohol should turn out pretty good for you.
