Default Top Flite DC-3 spar

Of course I've glued it in place but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm building the center section of the wing. The top spar is sitting about 1/16" above the top of the ribs. I glued it thinking that maybe the sheeting was intended to butt up against the spar "it's a very uniform 1/16" on all ribs". I looked forward in the instructions and the top sheeting looked like it went over the spar[:'(]. What do I do? I'm not about to cut the spar down so will it be ok to butt the sheeting against the high spar? Thanks for any thoughts. Deltatech

my friend has a dc-3 on the building board and i mentioned your question, his reply was you are absolutely right about not cutting down the spar, you don't want to do that. butting the sheeting up against the spar with no gaps whatsoever will work just fine. make sure you have plenty of glue on the edge of the sheeting contacting the spar. this arrangement should provide plenty of strength if you are concerned about further structural integrity you could run a 1 inch strip of carbon fiber tape with epoxy thinned with denatured alcohol about the consistency of milk over the full length of the spar.

That's great advice pauluk2w. It's what I hoped people would say. I have to admit that I'm disappointed with this because it's not just a matter of the spar slots being too shallow but the spar web is too high, In other words I put things together correctly but this was the result.

Doesn't surprise me with TF kits lately...What is going on with their quality control?

Cheers,

If you have concerns and problems with the Top Flite kit's, go to the Top Flite support forum here on RCU and ask RCU member Bax your question's. I am sure he would want to know about any problems related to the kits and the quality of them. Good Luck, Dave
