Default Retract installation advice

Hey,

I am in the process of installing mechanical retracts on a GP P51D kit.
The retract wire needs to bent forward in order to allow the wheel to fit inside the leading edge. I am debating between two options, illustrated in the attached pics.
Which approach will be the easiest to complete ? which will be the most durable ?
Thanks in advance.

I would go with the second pic because it would be easier to get a more precise bend away from the spring... as far as durability I would think either would be fine.
