Ah, I understand now flyoz. I've never used Coverite so I was speaking out of ignorance.

Neddy, nice job! Congrats on finishing that bird. When do you anticipate the maiden flight?

I recently stopped by the Sig plant to pick up my 1/4 scale cub (full wing) and am anxious to get started on it. But I have a P-47 nearing completion and MUST get it finished before breaking open the Cub kit. I have a new Magnum .91 four-stroke for power. I enjoyed following this thread. The Cub will join my 1/4 scale Decathlon and about 10 other 40 & 60 size birds.

Neddy, I have a Hacker 60 L, Castle 120, two 5000 MA Nanotecs in serries?? Keeps the same voltage of just one battery, 18.5, 23 inch APC and it kicks ass in my Funtana X. It will haul that cub around, guaranteed. I would have someone really famaliar with your set up run it with a tac and Watt meter attached for a test just to be sure you aren't going to ruin anything. Experience here, I toasted a Tacon Bigfoot with the wrong battery combination. Good luck with it. I flew my Cub 40 , Great Planes with GP floats at Lake Havasu Float Fly the 9th & 10th of this month. What a blast! U west coast/AZ & NV guys should definetely try it. After 30 years of R/C, I had my rudder hooked up backwards for the first flight. Never done it before .(knocking on wood right now). Lucked out on the landing...wasn't pretty! Again....good luck. wallace.tharp

I'll get out my tach and watt meter and check things out before my maiden but I'm confident everything will be fine. There's no way I'll need all the power it will give me, I've been thinking about putting a throttle curve in my radio to make sure I don't zap it to 100% without thinking about it first.

I have the long wing also with a Magnum 91. It flyes real good down here in the south. I built it about ten years ago. I've got the clipped-wing version
framed up ready to cover. Hopefully be ready come spring. I am putting a little more horsepower in it. (Magnum 180)

Hi guys

I am planing to build a 1/4 scale piper as well.
It is still unclear to me which one to choose!?
I think the SIG has a more scale overall appearance where as the BALSA USA has a nicer cabin with smaller pillars and a functioning door!
Even though I see pictures of the SIG with a door as well. Is that been an upgrade??
I was wondering of either of the two models have been substantially upgraded in the last few years!?
On the website of Stewart Aircraft Corporation it says that the BALSA USA has been completely revised and upgraded.
Any comments or experiences from your side would be very much appreciated!

If you're looking for truly scale and can cut the wood yourself then I highly recommend cubmans plans. Check them out at his site here, http://thecubden.org/, there is nothing better or even close for scale realism.

I built the Sig full wing. With help from the guys here (especially the guy right above this post) I was able to add a lot of detail including the functional door. Now you should know that it was my first real build and I took my time, 2-1/2 years to be exact. But I enjoyed every minute of it!

Hi guys

As I mentioned before I really want to BUILD a Piper Cub at 1/4 scale to start with.
This thread has really helped me in my decision making process and I am now sure it will be the SIG!
Since I am living in Dubai it will not be easy (or cheap if you will!) to get a kit over here.
I am in the progress of organising this.
As soon as I receive my kit I will share my experience and progress with you guys! I already did that when I was building the big K 8b from Phoenix models.
It does give a lot of motivation and ideas!
I intend to build my Piper rather scale, so scale ailerons ARE a MUST!
I hope that way we can get a bit more live into this thread again!?
Talk to you guys soon....

Cheers, Martin

Another question: Has there been any changes to the kit recently or has it been the same for years??

I am glad that this thread still seems to be alive!

Since I am beginning to prepare for the build a few things you will be able to assist:

- Dummy engine cylinders. Someone mentioned a website, somebody even said there are CNC machined kits?
- Scale aileron. I believe somebody in here sells a conversion kit!?
- Door and window. The mentioned sites are not there anymore. Its been a while since this thread started. Maybe someone can tell me?

One thing is very clear already: It will definitely be electric. Even my Worldmodels 1/3 scale Super Cub (well, at least SOME similarity to a Piper!?!?) is electric!
And it will get the Robart gear for sure.

You can get the aileron and door scale mods from Cubmans site, here, http://thecubden.org/.
The scale dummy engine from here, http://www.topnotchkits.com/index_files/TN_Kit11.htm.
