Default Cap 232 rebuild ???

I'm in the process of rebuilding my cap 232 after a crash this summer. The horizontal stab was damaged in the crash and needs replacing. I got the old one cut out but that's were my questions come in. As you can see in the pictures there is quite a bit of dried epoxy and wood left in the slot, and the top of the slot is a little out of shape.

Do I need to remove the fuselage above were the stab goes and replace it with a new section, or can I fill in the gaps with something?
What would you recommend to fill in the gaps with?
Do I need to remove the fin and replace it as well?
How much of the old dry epoxy do I need to get out of the slot?
