Looks awesome! Are you going to paint it for the finish?

ROTC, I did build the manifold long enough ago that I can't remember whether I used silver solder or lead solder (I picked the project back up). I think I followed a print magazine for advice at the time (yes, most of us got great advice for years that way...and still do). I do remember that my heavy duty soldering iron barely beat the heat-sink rate of the brass...so maybe try a hobby torch? Brass is heavier but easy for most of us. If you want to do aluminum, I think you need to braze it at least...and skills I don't have? Probably mig/tig for an aluminum job done well (saves weight though). My brass job will work, I think, and I made it! If it melts down this spring...I'll let all know (it should be fine). Anyone... let us know the best practices here.

Aaron, lookin good. Keep up the enthusiasm!

well i have tried the brazing aluminum thing with little to no success my problem is i will get an awesome joint then start on the next stack and melt off the first one it was very annoying i may see if i can get a finer point for my torch. i think i am going to go with brass though i think i solders easier

rotccapt ,
I have a good idea why dont you try using copper with silver solder I would make it for you but I have no access to a torch, besides I would like a set for the new P-51 I've started

sixguns i think i am going to go with brass and silver solder i just made a spark plug cap with it and it seems to be very strong. also what size is you stang if it is 1/7 scale like mine after i get mine done i could make you a set PM me if interested. that is if i am happy with them. my plan is to make a jig to help hold everything in place as i solder the stacks on

Aaron, looks great. Did you say you glassed it? Are you going to lay down panel tape, prime it, and remove tape (to get nice recessed lines)?

Six guns, did you see my soldered brass manifold a few posts back? It worked pretty well in the making (time consuming). -Riddle4U

Yep, glassed with .75 glass and west system epoxy. Yes, lay down the tape, prime, sand to the top of the tape, remove tape, apply rivets on each side of the recessed line. "Flite metal" type tape for access panels, wing and tail fairings.

Aaron, nice to see you kick A! Keep it up, good experience.

Oh, for others; I notice Sig had like .56 oz. cloth available (lightest I've seen since I glassed my Royal Zeke years ago with Dan Parson's .6 oz. cloth which was great). You still get the strength, but lighter weight. Most of what you're after is a surface substrate that you can apply a super finish to. Don't fear the weight if you use good technique, it will be heavier than monokote for darn sure...but then do we all satisfy ourselves that way in the end (the lovely Monokote)? I am monokoting this one for me, but in the future I will stop being lazy. So; the plane is a fighter..and it will be heavier and land another 25 feet further at the appropriate speed, if that. If you're worried about that, then forget jets entirely (yes, admit it...we all want to try em if we can)! Remember we're not building a stunt ship with the Mustang, it is a heavy warbird..it still can be nimble though.

should work i have used one for another project but it depends on how much you are planning on painting i have used one for trim before but for a base color you would be better of using an automotive touchup gun because it gives a wider spray path and would be more even

now all that is left is to get my mechanism working and fine tune the delays they are close but not quite there yet but i wont be able to tell until i get it back in the wing. i also found out that h9 makes a decal set for my stang so that will make finishing a lot easier

gmohr what do you think of klass kote paint? i like it it even turns out well when brushed on it flattens out very good and you almost cant tell that is was hand painted the spinner on mine is sprayed and the nose is hand painted

anyone know of a paint that matches monokote metallic aluminum i need some for my stang

Rotc, I like it a lot. It goes on very nice with an airbrush. Klasskote will mix you up a match for Monokote Aluminum, but it really needs a top cote of clear to get a nice gloss on it (because it is metalic perhaps). All the other colors go on very shiney without the gloss top cote.

saber, air brushing is a lot of fun if you look at the type of paint that you are going to be using and is it copatable with the covering. one can get carried away do lots of testing first I wish my air brush was still working

Excellent job rotccapt. You probably have already done this but, make sure you test your gear operation a couple of times with the wing right side up. Sometimes the weight of the gear hanging changes things.

noted will defiantly do that. i am very happy with the sequencer. i have not desided if i am going to use gear up switches or not yet but we will see how it goes with the gear tests with the wing right side up it is slowly comming together i cant wait till it is done and flying next on the chopping block will be the ailoron linkage or my muffler

well here is the right side up test and for good measure mounted it all the the fuse and attached the tail wheel retract servo too all works well just have to tweek the inner doors to get them to seat right. i also just found out that my scoop should get here today or monday it was shipped thursday so heres hopping. i still need to set up my closing mechanism for the tail wheel doors too

if you noticed one gear is quieter than the other that is because the quiet one is packed with grease and the other is not yet
