Default Sig 1/5 scale Cub/ Saito 60 twin????

I am going to build a Sig 1/5 scale Cub. It has an 84" wing span and according to the directions should weigh about 7-8 lbs. finished. Would like to power it with Saito 60 twin. Is this a good combination? Enough power? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Anthony, The 60T has about the same power as a .50 single. You will need to watch how much weight you add to the plane.

I built that combination a few years ago. I lived in Indiana at the time and it flew fine, not over powered but flew. I moved to Wyoming and the engine was not up to the altitude. I put a 90 T in it and now it's perfect. I'd really recommend the 90.

Greg, you'll love building the Sig Cub, straightforward stick building, take your time. I have one that is modified and came out to ten pounds, and I fly it with a .65 Saito single; it has all the power the plane needs. I agree with the others that the .60 twin may be good for scale flight, but I think the .90 is a bit of overkill unless you want to clip the wings and increase the performance (look at CubNut's thread--great looking plane). If you build the full span wing it just floats, and the roll rate is pretty slow, but it will do nice stall turns, wingovers and will loop, but not from level flight unless you overpower it. I would recommend Koverall and dope for a covering, you'll never have to worry about wrinkles, and it is a light, strong covering.

If you use a single cylinder engine, you can mount it inverted and almost completely conceal it inside the cowl, if you want to detail a dummy engine for it.
