Default Fiberglassing a Goldberg Cub?

Hey guys I am looking for some help. I am thinking of glassing my Cub. Has anyone done it? Is it a bad idea? My next build is a Top Flight Corsair that I AM going to Glass and I want to practice on the Cub. Thoughts would be appreciated.

You would have to sheet the Cub before glassing and then the plane would be very heavy. I would suggest not doing it if you want it to fly.
Later!!

I would suggest not glassing the cub. It isn't nessessary and would make it heavy and fly like a dog. Practice on something else. Just build a small box frame and practice on that before you do the corsair. Would be way better off.

Another vote here for no glass.

A Cub is a tube and fabric airplane. Planking the whole thing for glassing will do two things. 1) Make it NOT a scale looking Cub 2) Make it unnecessarily heavy.

Here's my Goldberg Cub. Modified with flaps - also float ready, OS .91 4 stroke

If you want to practice, buy a cheap trainer kit that is fully planked and go for it.

I agree with the others. The full scale Cub is covered with fabric. You may want to consider the Century 21 fabric covering or similar. You will happier and so will the plane.

Not only does it just not seem right and add extra weight but it will also add a lot of work for no advantage. That means, I vote No.

Thanks, I replaced those aluminum struts with some dowel/balsa/monokoted one so it looks even better now. I kept bending them (you can see the bend in the pics) whenevr I removed the wing so I went with something a little sturdier. Since they aren't structural, it's easy to do.

The flaps are great, they help get the thing on the ground since with the .91 in it, it putts around at less than 1/4 throttle.

Everybody should have a Cub, they are a relaxing kick in the pants (if there is such a thing).

Don

All right, all right I get it, I won't fiberglass!!! I do appreciate everybodies input. Don, I may have to steal that idea and put flaps on mine, I do like the look.

By all means, steal it. It's an easy conversion to make. Cut the aileron/TE stock to TLAR (That Looks About Right) length (mine is 1/3 flap and 2/3 aileron) and then bottom hinge it with monokote or whatever you're comfortable with.

While you're at it, get a Super Cub cowl from Fiberglass Specialties: http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/catalog.htm #CG-3
