I am building a TF P-40 and want to keep it light when covering and painting. Any idea which of these come out weighing less:
Silk with dope and paint (Silk is .47 oz per yard)
Sig Koverall and paint (1.25 oz. per yard)
Coverrite Fabric and paint (3.1 oz per yard)
Glass with Resign and paint (.75 or 1.25 oz per yard)
The weights I can find are without paint. Any idea how much paint the different coverings take to fill the weave and get coverage? It seems silk will be the lightest but Koverall may be close once all is applied? Any ideas?
Any other options I missed?

I don't know which one is lightest. But I think much has to do with the paint preparation, and the application of the many coats needed to get to the projected finish.
Glass and epoxy, I have done a few times, it is nice but heavy.
two coats of epoxy, sanding, primer, sanding, application of panels line, final primer, base coat, colors, markings, stripes and then clear coat. On a TF P51 giant, it added up 3.5 lbs. But it is nice. 26 lbs dry. 3w60 for power.
I am working on a different project now. I am trying Koverall and paint in an effort to do away with the epoxy and a lot of sanding, and also save some weight.
Glass and epoxy up to a point can add some strenght to the structure if heavy enough but then it weights even more.

I was hoping that Coverall would be lighter even after painting. I wonder if a combination would work well? The wing top covered in silk, the wing bottom and fuse with Coverall. Have you tried any combinations before?

Ho! am a little concerned about two types of covering on the same wing. Remember Koverall is a high shrink meterial.
I did fuselage one type and then wing a second, that was ok.
You can also visit s****.com they make a full scale covering for restoration and for model aircraft, they claim light and exact color.
After all that I decided Koverall and paint.

I use Coverrite Fabric on my P-40E (white). Used Top Flite abbrasive sponge to scratch the white paint real good. Painted it with Cheveron cammouflage. Added Top Flite flat clear coat. It did not seem to gain much weight. I particularly picked Coverrite Fabric was because it won't bubble like film which could cause the paint to chip easily after a few years. New paint will flex with the coverring real well when it is new. A few years down the line they will get brittle and chip if they surface flex often.
