I have a question I would like to direct to the kit building elders of this community

I have recently been introduced to the RC flying community. I have had a number of flights on my trainer (Sig LT 40) ARF ( Which I "Built") , but I would really like to begin to learn the building process of the hobby over the winter months.

Are there any particular brand names that are better than others, in terms of quality, instruction manuel etc.....

If so, I would appreciate any advice on "good" kits and also satisfy my second plane needs. I have a .46 OS FX which I planned on moving to my second plane.

My favorite brand of kits is Great Planes for one simple reason. Every single one of their planes has the best step-by-step, photo illustrated instructions. Now I know that there are many other companys that also heve them (like SIG and Goldberg), but GP is the only company that I have found where every single kit they produce has the same quality and hassle-free instructions.

As far as what to move up to? Many people (myself included) will recommend the Sig "Four Star 40". But one that is often overlooked (too often IMHO) is the Great Planes "Easy Sport 40". It has a shoulder wing which makes it a little easier that the 4*40, but it is a fully semetrical wing which will allow easy entry into aerobatics.

Ditto what MinnFlyer said. The manuals in GreatPlanes are some of the best. As you progress too, and get more kits under your belt, you'll find each manufacturer has different techniques to teach.
So after building a few GreatPlanes kits, try a Sig, or Goldberg, or even a Midwest, and there will be new things to learn with each one. GreatPlanes or Sig kits are very good to start though.

I can vouch for 4*, am finishing one now, pretty simple and fast to build and they say its a gentle yet aerobatic - capable bird.

I agree about the Easy Sport 40 as I am finishing my second one up now. It's a great flying plane and it won't disapoint you. It is a bit more building then the 4* and if building techniques is something that you want to learn then by all means look at this plane. Now I'm not saying that it's difficult, just a little more to do then the others, but rock solid as can be!!!!! The other one that I would look at and is always over looked is the SIG Mid Star 40, what a fun flying plane and not hard to build. I had a ball with mine till a bad Rx battery brought it down.

I just ordered the Pete N' Poke Sport 40 kit. Any thoughts on that kit?

you ABSOLUTELY cant go wrong with a sig 4 star 40!!! Its cheap too.
