I have been building a HOB V-Tail Beechcraft Bonanza for about 2 months now. You know, taking my time, trying to get it all right since it is my first kit. Now this is an older kit, and with this problem, Im guessing that engine sizes have changed. It called for a TD .049-.051 (yes I know its small). So I go buy one and begin the mounting process, etc... Then I notice that the engine compartment is about 3/4" - 1" or so to small in length to accomodate this engine! Im thinking OMG... my firewall is epoxied in place, so there is no shifting it back (or is there?). If I extend it, it will throw off the other pieces that mount around it... so Im just totally lost on what my options would be. It's like the engine is larger now than when this kit was designed (somewhere in the 70's I think). Any ideas would be greatly helpful, and if needed, I can post some good pics of the problem. balcorn, Did you purchase a TD .049? It's been a while since I've used .049 engines but I believe the TD does not have a fuel tank. If you bought an .049 with a rear mounted tank that could be your problem.

About a hundred years ago, me and my friends flew nothing but TD 051's. And one friend had the Bonanza. IT flew very well, a little hot.
I don't know what to tell you , but hang in there, its a good plane and engine combo.

I bought the Norvel .061 R/C engine. I was going to get the .049, but the shell for these two engines are exactly the same, I guess just the bore is different. Any way... the engine I have does not have the fuel tank on it. So I have no clue what I should do. I have included two pictures so you guys can see the situation. Like I said, this is my first kit, and I will not let this beat me! Thanks for the help.

I would move the fire wall. A cut here and there and some new pieces of wood, and some more epoxy. Before you know it you will have fixed your problem.

Unless you're worried about maintaining a scale appearance, why not just extend the nose by butt-joining some stock to it?

That's not bad. The gap is only about 1/4" - 5/16" wide. I would just add a sheet of balsa to that gap and sand it flush with the sides

Minnflyers attachment looks like the ticket. You may need to rotate the engine 90 degrees so the exhaust can exit the fuse.

Great... a million thanks to all of you who answered. I wasn't sure how to go about dealing with this situation. No previous experience left me with a blank here. I will jump on it tonight, and maybe I can have the "after" pic posted here in this topic tomorrow evening. Be sure to ckeck back. This will surely test my patience and skill with kit building.
