Just finished a CG Tiger 60 and attached the canopy with 3 screws/washers per side. Now I'm breaking in the engine on the plane and it looks like fuel is getting up under the edges of the canopy.
If I re-do and glue the thing down with "canopy glue", do I simple glue to the Monokote, or do I have to cut away a thin "glue line"?
Also, what glue works best?
Thanks!!

You can glue right to the covering (Clean it REALLY good now that you got oil on it) with RC-56

It goes on like White Glue, but it dries clear and works VERY well.
However, a simplier thing to do would be to just use some 1/4" pin stripe tape and go around the outside of the canopy

Hi Minn;
Thanks!
As to the use of the striping tape, do you mean to cover the glue line or actually attach the canopy with it?

I wouldn't trust pinstriping to hold the canopy in place. Best is a complete bead of RC-56 around the canopy, then PVC tape (in the proper color) around the entire edge after the glue dries. Screws are okay but not necessary. You can substitute pinstripe tape or MK trim for PVC tape on the Tiger since all the canopy edges are straight lines (MK trim doesn't go around corners), however MK trim won't fit over the lip of the canopy well.
Like Minn said, this works best on fresh Monokote. Alcohol, a good degreaser, and plenty of clean rags will be needed at this point to remove all traces of an oil film. The covering (and canopy) needs to be "squeaky" clean.

Some additional comments-
Most all hobby shops carry either the RC-56 or Pacer Formula 560 which is the same stuff, so its not necessary to place a special order for it. The glue sticks to just about any kind of plastic like crazy and dries perfectly clear, so the trim tape is just cosmetic. Make sure that your pilot is well secured and drill a small hole into the fuse to allow moisture to escape before gluing the canopy on. Once the canopy is glued in place it will be just about impossible to remove without cutting the covering away!
Also be careful of getting raw fuel on the canopy- most of the clear plastics won't stand up to nitro and it only takes a few seconds for it to haze the plastic.

I use RC56 too, but I give the edge of the seam a smear of silicon after the glue is dry, just to be safe that the fuel won't affect the glue.
If you still want to use the screws to attach the conopy, just give the edge of the canopy a bead of silicon before you put it on, and wipe off what squishes out after attaching it. That way you can still remove it, and still keep the fuel out.

Also remember that most Vinyl tapes will shrink with heat including Trim or Pin stripe tape. If you go around a curve and the inside puckers, just a quick shot with the heat gun (quick because most vinyl tapes will shrink fast) and pucker gone!
