Default Mounting The Ignition Box On A Decathlon?

I HAVE A SUPER DECATHLON IM PUTTING A 40CC ENGINE ON.. ITS NOT GOING TO HAVE ALOT OF SPARE ROOM UP ON THE FIREWALL. MY QUESTION IS WHERE SHOULD I TRY TO MOUNT THE IGNITION BOX? IM DEBATING WHERE TO TRY AND LOCATE IT, BUT STILL HAVENT COME UP WITH A GOOD PLAN YET. HAS ANYONE ELSE DEALT WITH THIS ON A DYNAFLITE DECATHLON? IF SO WHAT DID YOU DO.. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.. OH AND THE ENGINE WILL BE INVERTED IF THAT HELPS ANYONE OUT.. THANKS AGAIN

Default Mounting The Ignition Box On A Decathlon?

Bradley, I had a US41 on CH ignition in mine through construction. I put the ignition box behind the firewall on the right side, next to the fuel tank.

I never completed or flew this arrangement. I could not get a decent balance (VERY tail heavy). I ended up pulling the US41 to replace with a Quadra 42 on magneto. The extra weight helped me get in balance.

Good luck!

Default IGNITION BOX

DID YOU PUT A HOLE THROUGH THE FIREWALL OR DID YOU HAVE IT COME FROM UNDERNEATH? I WANTED TO HAVE EASY ACCESS TO IT JUST IN CASE BUT I GUESS THAT SHOULD WORK OUT OK.. I JUST DONT LIKE PUTTING MORE HOLES IN IT THAN I HAVE TO.. I DONT HAVE MUCH OPTION THOUGH I GUESS.. I WILL SEE WHAT I CAN COME UP WITH THERE.. THANKS

Bradley,

Access in my installation was anything but easy. I am like you and don't want any more hatches/holes than necessary.

I put a hole in the side of the fire wall big enough to put the sparkplug cap through, then installed the ignition box through the cabin, before I put in the fuel tank. Does make for much toing and froing until it is all together. As I said before, it all came out (fuel tank too), to be replaced by my mag driven Quadra.

Default Mounting The Ignition Box On A Decathlon?

Greetings Duhawk49: I am building one of these with a Brison 3.2 52cc for a friend. I mounted the ign. right in front of the windshield former in the fuel tank area. I built a box for it, and one for the ign. batt, on the opposite side. The boxes are permanently padded inside, and out, because the fuel tank is a close fit. The tank floor had to be modified somewhat. I too put a fairly large hole in the lower right corner of the firewall, gritting my teeth the whole time. I moved the firewall back 1" to help when it came time to balance, and re-enforced the @%##$ out of it, front and back. Wound up putting the rudder servo, back where the holes are in the side of the fuse for control linkage to exit. This worked out nice as there is a piece of ply that is supposed to be glued in there, just in front of the tail wheel, that made a nice hatch. It balances nicely so far, with out the rx batts. (2), or throttle servo in it. BTW this is a Dynaflite kit, and is not done yet. Always glad to help if I can. Garry
