Default Glassing technique?

HiThere,
I am relatively new to building and would like to know if there are any sites or articles on firerglassing airplanes for a painted finish. Seems it is a prefered method for modelers. Any help would be greatly appreciated for this novice. Maybe a site referal or rundown on the basics or any things to consider. (eg. : mess, odor, expected results, time spent, etc.) Thanks .
