How do you think a Saito 82 will do in a Hog Pipe?

I think it would be on the low end power wise if you intend on having lively performance but if you want something to cruise around on a nostalgic kind of day I think it will be fine.

I don't know, you may be a tad bit underpowered with that motor. I have an OS 91 4-stroke on mine and I feel that's a perfect match for the Hog Bipe. You might be happier with a Saito 100 if you want to stay with a Saito engines, if not get an OS 91. IMHO this plane was maid for the OS 91 4-stroke, or the other way around because they are a perfect match.

Ken's probably right but the Saito.82 is a stroooooong motor. I have one and it's one of my favs.

I based my answer on the fact that they say the Saito 100 has the same power as the OS 91 FS.

Oh come on now Ken ...who is "they"?......OS?

According to published specs, it looks like the saito is almost 5 ounces lighter and puts out 1.5 hp verses 1.6 hp with the os 91. Seems pretty close to me

The Saito has more, I've had both, still have the Saito. More RPM with the same prop.

I have a OS 70 on mine. It flys like a Bi Plane.

Okay, all you 4cycle guys can rip on me all you want- I'm using my ST .90. I'm curious to see what she does or doesn't do!


All I've run on my airplanes are Saitos, YS, and Magnum 4 cycles. I want to experiment with the 2 strokers for awhile. If I truley am dissapointed I'll put my Saito 1.00 in her.

ilikebipes, if you insist on running a dirty old two stroke in this beautiful bipe, please run it inverted, and run an exhaust extension out the bottom, ala tiger moth. would be an interesting "bash" of the front end. mike

Actually, it's a new "dirty old 2cycle" that I didn't have a home for. Apparently I let my Saito 1.00 sit too long without rubbing some elbow grease into it. The rear bearing rusted. It is currently a basket case untill I purchase a new bearing and gasket set.

Of course, I could use my YS 1.20....... Hmmmmm!
