I got this trainer from a friend who gave it to me. The engine was gooped up so I put a Super Tigre 45 on it. I used two strips of bakelite for mounts and mounted them to the plywood base on the engine housing. Everything is level from the strips. Take a look at the pic. Is this too far downward?

Are these beam mounts or radial mounts? It does appear to be somewhat excessive, but, I'd go ahead and try it. Your local experts can then recommend whether or not to make a change. some trainers require quite a bit of downthrust.

That looks like too much down thrust to me.
I would recommend that you try to identify the model, if you don't know already, and submit a post on RCU requesting the specifications. Post a full picture of the plane on RCU requesting the model id and you will get an answer for sure.
