I just won a Great Planes Extra 300S .40 kit at my club's raffle. If you built this kit was nose weight needed?
If it needs nose weight then I will use a light .60 other wise I will use a good .46

Thats a great little plane and if you will notice the servo tray can be moved to balance the plane out before its glued solid .A 61 FX did the trick on mine .One word of caution look at your wing spars if there Balsa I would trade them out for either Bass wood or spruce .The earlier kits has the balsa spars and the wings failed .I'm just finishing up a 60 sized at the moment .It won't be the hot rod my 40 was ,but still should be ok with a 91 Saito for power .

The 40 size is a great flyer. I have had mine for 4 years or so and fly it with a saito 80, no weight added to the tail but batteries and servos were moved back. I suggest getting a replacement cowl and not even bother with the POS abs one. The plane flies like it is bigger with very little coupling. Build it straight and have a blast.

I have never used any weight on a plane. I built this kit and needed no weight. I used the Magnum XLS 52 two stroke on mine and it was a nice combo. The last thing I do when building my plane is mount the battery pack to avoid adding weight. I check the cg without the battery mounted. I balance inverted and slide the battery along the fuse and mount it where it needs to be.

Ive got a ST .61 and the only thing i did was put the battery a little twards the rear. LOVE Mine. I am going to glass over the landing gear to make it stronger. my fuel line was bad and fuel soaked the whole area inside and it took a bad bounce on the third flight and broke out the gear. such a nice plane! I dont know if I would recomend the engine to airplane combo. go four stroke like a os 70. good day!

I built 2 of these a few years back.... 4-stroke .91 in both. I recomend a flying wires on the tail if your going to use anything bigger then recomended. I lost the first one partly due to being overpowered with the .91,, the hor.stab just folded. I installed flying wires on the second plane, and have no prob at all... and I can ring this one out pretty good. It's a real nice flying plane. There is alot of info on this site about it,,, a few mods some have made, etc.... just build it as instructs call for though, and it will turn out fine. Good luck.

I love my 40 size gp extra, and originally flew it with a little 52 Magnum 4 stroke. Needless to say it was underpowered, but a great flyer none the less. I currently have a 61 Magnum 4 stroke in it, and with everything slid forward it needs no nose weight. I have a fairly large fleet of Planes and this is one of my favorites. The kit builds nice, and the Plane is a good flyer! A Saito 72, or Magnum/O.S 70 4 stroke would be about perfect for this Plane IMO.
