Default Modding a sig astro hog

What would it take to make this into a tail dragger with retractable main gear?

I believe it is in the plans to. Look at the tail in the tower picture. I know someone who had one as a tail dragger, and all the difference was, he put a set of conventional gear on the fuse in front of the wing. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision and build.

That model tends to nose over with wing mounted gear, so it's not practical to mount retracts as a taildragger. Tricycle retracts may be an option. When the gear is up, they both look the same.

What about if the retracts are like on the corsair, swinging forward to back so that when extended, they are a little in front of the wing? Do they make retracts that swing more than 90 degrees?
If you guys have any other suggestions as to planes that will fit a .80 four stroke with retracts I would love to hear them. Just keep it under $200

It would take (the cost of a new wing) about the time you came in on a hard landing and ripped the wing all apart with those retracts! That astro hog has a tendency to nose over on landings and takeoffs; thats why I used an aluminum fusalage mounted gear to prevent that from happening on mine. I just got back from putting 6 more flights on mine! Fun, Fun, Fun!

Try a P-51 mustang if you want a plane that uses a retractable langing gear.

Good luck on your decision.

best mod for an astro hog is taking one rib off of each wing. They'll tumble a whole lot better! That, and cut down on the incidence a bit. Mine had wing mounted gear, but I put some robarts struts on it. don't think the retracts are a good idea, just wouldn't look right.
