The SIG Citabria is my next build. I will probably begin just after the new year. I don't have first hand experience on the plane, but based on my examining the still boxed kit, it is an older design and I have concluded it is a builder's kit. That is, a lot of wood and it will likely require a little more time and effort than some of the other kits that are available. SIG produces quality kits that are good fliers. It is a good choice.
Having said that, I am planning to cover it with a fabric, probably "Solartex" and power it with a .52 4 stroke engine, either O.S. or Magnum.

There is a building thread, if you do a search for SIG Citabria on this site. BTW, I am building one right now and plan to cover it with Worldtex (which is the same as Solartex). Or you could try this link. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_47...tm.htm#4754122
There are some good suggestions in the thread for what to look out for and where to go for additonal info. Good luck, Dzl

Great -plane, you'll enjoy it. I also think the .52 4C is a good motor, have one in a Smith Mini Plane but it may be marginal for the Citabria. I fly mine with an OS 46 2C and it's ok but if I was doing it again and using a 4C I'd put it a 70 size. IMO

DaveB told you right, it IS a builder's kit, but Sig's excellent plans and instructions make it easy. A .52 4 stroke sounds about right for it.

I have to agree with you Norm. My Sig Citabria flew with a Fox .45 years ago and it was underpowered. I'm thinking of building another one soon but I will go with something equal to a .60 2 cycle. Perhaps an OS .70 surpass? The Citabria is not the cleanest airframe with a large frontal area, struts, thick airfoil etc. It's bigger than you think. I do remember it is a real sweetheart in the air. VERY stable and smooth flight. Touch and goes were fun but with a weak engine aerobatics were not too impressive.
