Default Pica T-28 B

Looking for advice about the PICA T-28 B 1/5 (81")
Aussie shops sell them only on order, (don't stock them), so I can't measure the cowl to see if it would take my Saito FA 170 R3 which is 7 3/4 " diameter.

I would be very grateful if someone could tell me :
a. if they think the Saito 170 radial would fit
b. is the Saito 170 OK for this size model
c. how the kit builds and flies

Thanks very much for your help,
Regards,
Bill

I can answer two of your questions. I currently have one I am going to build, will measure the cowl for you tonight and email the size. I do believe it will fit in nicely though.

I have flown this a/c, both ful size and the model, and it is a joy to fly. Add retracts and flaps and you have a great looking scale type a/c.

I flew my first kit using a 120 Saito and it flew very scale like. I don't have any experience on the 170 so can't give you an honest answer.

G'Day Jim,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I envy you your time on the full size, I have around 19,000 hours but nil on the T-28.
Surprisingly the Saito 120 makes 2.2 HP and the 170 is 2 HP, but it sounds like it would get by.
I don't want to be a nuisance, but I noticed the T-28 has what looks like cowl gills around the 10 and 2 o'clock positions and I was wondering if you think the rocker covers could fit in these positions and be concealed by the partly open gills.
I guess the alternative is to lay up a new cowl to gain the 1/4 " on each side but I don't want to spoil the looks of such a great looking model.
Thanks again for the info.
Regards,
Bill
