Hello all, I am new to the forum but not to RC. I am looking for a 1/4 scale kit for the Ryan STA, not an ARF. I have searched the internet in vain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, looks like Great Planes discontinued the kit. Looks like they have the ARF, though. But I would imagine if you really want the kit, you won't settle for an ARF.

Here is a site that you can get the plans from. If you decide to "scratch" it or send plans to a kit cutter and need the cowl and wheel pants I think I have them stuffed away somewhere. They are made out of fiberglass and are for these plans.

Steve, I have the plans and plan to build the STA after I finish my 1/4 scale Tiger Moth. I am interested in your cowl and wheel pants. What is the asking price?

SoCalSal & Outssider, thankyou very much for the info. I had not heard of Fields plans for this plane. Do either of you happen to know if one of the laser kit cutters will cut this one?

I have the plans from the Model Airplane News plan service and did some inquiring about kit cutting. I got answers from "not interested to $350". Most cutters don't like to do onesies. They want to cut quantity to make it worth their time. If you want to pay you can get it done. After reviewing my plans, I've decided that for a couple of nights work I can easily hand cut the kit myself.

packet,
Cutting your own kit isn't that hard. If you have access to a band saw, scroll saw and a disc sander you can cut the kit in about 10 hours work and save yourself some $$$. I cut a Ziroli Stearman kit in around 20 hrs and it has 80+ wing ribs. Just take the plans and get copies made to use as your templates so you do not destroy the originals.
Good Luck!!

Cubnut, I have done that before.............before I started working 60 hr weeks. I love the way laser cut kits go together, and the time saved. If I cant find a cutter who will do it for considerably less than $350.00, I will cut it myself. It might take me a year, but I will do it.
