Here's mine, it's just carved and sanded out of balsa. I alos did one on my 4*, which came out a little nicer. The fiberglass method is a little more work but would definitely be more convinient in the long run.

Zachmccool, You start with a plywood ring spaced just behind the spinner. The spinner should be about 2 1/2" to get a good flow into the fuse. Build up slats from the fuse to the ring with balsa, about 1/2" square slats work great. Work your way around the cowl, fitting the pieces in as you go. Make sure you only tack glue a couple of the slats to the firewall. When you finish with the balsa slats, sand it to shape, then cut it off. sand a bit more (for the thickness of the FG). Then FG the whole mess (outside?) Hope this helps

The SE will 3D fine if you build it light and have enough power. Use light wheels like the Dubro featherlites. Use a micro servo for throttle. Keep the fuel tank as small as possible for whatever engine you use. I've known people to cut out one rib to save weight. Some of the ply formers can be subbed with balsa. All of this helps to keep it light.
You could use the green foam that is used for flower arrangements as your plug. I would seal it with something like artists gesso. You could try mold release, but dripping glow fuel would probably be easier as that eats the foam out fast.
