Default Engine for Hog Bipe?

I just bought a used Sig Pig from a friend. Now I'm in need of an engine. I'm thinking maybe a Saito 82. What do you all think?

Thanks

The 82 would fly it but most use a 91 with happy results, When I built mine I needed a engine so I ended up getting the Saito 100 and it flies the Hog great, I just don't need as much throttle and when I need it I have it to really have some fun with it. My Hog became my favorate plane to fly and always goes to the field with me, The rest of the planes take turns. If your buying a new engine spend a few dollers more for the 100 and you won't regret it. Mine needed no extra weight to get a good CG with the 100 also.

The 82 is going to leave the plane a bit underpowered. I would say to go with an OS 91 Surpass 4-stroke or a Saito 100 4-stroke. Either of these engines will give this plane plenty of power.

I think the 91 4 stroke was invented for that particular plane.

I had a OS 70 4 stroke in mine. WOW was it hurting for power! Go 90 or 100!

I'm just curious what a YS 1.10 or a YS 1.20 would do on this bipe. [sm=50_50.gif]

Be a waste of those engine on it.

From what I have read the saito 1.00 has more power than the hog bipe needs, so a YS 1.20 would be way over kill since they have a BUNCH more power than a Saito 1.25 would even have.

I've heard the Thunder Tiger F-91S described as the perfect engine for the Hog Bipe. It's available from Infinite Hobbies for $184.99 and shipping is free for orders over $150:

The Magnum RFS .91 would probably also be an excellent fit for the Hog Bipe, and HobbyPeople.net still has them on sale for $149.99:

They're still on backorder at the moment, but I imagine they'll get backfills handled soon enough.

I appreciate your opinion- however much I completely disagree with you on it.

But my question was :

I'm curios what a YS 1.10 or a YS 1.20 WOULD DO on this bipe?

Unlimited verticle!!!! I just don't think a Saito 1.25 would do that. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Saito fan.

Thanks for all the opinions. I'm listening! I'm leaning now toward the Saito 100. I've had great luck with Saitos, not so good with Magnums.

This Hog has a Saito 91 on it. I'm building a second one that will hold a saito 100!

I guess you will just have to put one on there to find out. I don't think it has been done yet, or at least noone has admitted to doing it yet.

I thought a saito 1.00 would produce nearly unlimited vertical on this frame, so a 1.25 should do it since it is about the same size and weight of the 1.00.

I think the YS engines are great, but I just don't see the need for them on this frame.

n8kny- I'm a huge fan of your hog! VERY nice!!!!!!

This is as far as I have mine covered. I still have the lightning bolt to add and the trim work on the horizontal stab. And I have to finish painting my wheel pants.

As you can see, I used a ST .90 on mine. I have a Saito 1.00, but the rear bearing froze and I am still in the process of repairs- so it is a basket case. I had the .90 sitting on the shelf for 3 years now and wanted to use it. I think it looks good! I had to recess the firewall by 1/4 inch to make it fit according to specs. I could mount a YS 1.20 on her, but it is set up for this powerplant now. If I like this bipe, I will build another (Only I would put a swept forward landing gear in the bottom wing-I simply don't like the looks, as functional as it is, of the bent gear forward of the wing) just for th YS.
