Default Kit bashing

I had an idea . A couple club members and myself have decided to build a little squadron of Fokker Eindeckers for next year. Looking through Balsa USA the .60-.90 size Fokker goes for around 150.00 give or take a few dollars plus shipping. I got to thinking about a Giant size scale Ugly stick I saw that had been modified to look like an Eindecker, it looked great more expensive for what I had in mind. I'm a cheatskate ).
I built a .60 size Tower Hobbies Uproar a couple years back. Hmm, since the uproar is very similiar to an uglystick except its a taildragger, and a Ugly stick is very silmiar to an Eindecker how about just kit bashing an Uproar .60 to look like a Eindecker.
1.) Redo the Uproars tail section to mimic the Eindecker.
2.) Fabricate wire landing gear to match Eindecker.
3.) Fabricate a cowl, ( perhaps that Dial hand soap refill bottle would make a good one, I still have my .60 Uproar plans in the shop)
4.) Since the uproars wing span is just a hair under 62" and the to be a 1/4 scale Eindecker I would need to stretch the uproars wing by about 5" on each side, no problem. And while I'm at it I could add wingtips to dress it up like an Eindecker.
5.) Since the .60 Uproar doesn't come with a canopy which the Eindecker doesn't have either I could fabricate a little windshield with ease.
6.) Make a machine gun out of a spare dowel.
7.) Cut 2 wooden wheels (around 4") out of some spare 1/8" plywood I got lying around the shop, spilt some leftover vacuum hose and glue it over the wheels, drill out the center and paint them.
9. ) Buy a pilot, and here you have a Kit bashed Uproar made into an Eindecker.

What do you think ? I'm considering it as a winter project. I know its still a few months off but I'm still in the planning stage. I may just brake sown and buy the Balsa USA kit but this would be fun to try !

Have you looked at Top Flite's Elder 40? 65" wingspan, flies on a .46 2-stroke or .52 4 stroke. It already looks a lot like an Eindecker, and the kit costs $80 from Tower.

It sounds like you already have it all planed out so..... I say go for it!! Sometimes it’s a lot more fun building outside the box. (The kit box that is!) And this way, you can take pride in the final product. Knowing that you are the one who did the redesign. So now, when you fly it for the first time, you can yell “IT’S ALIVE!!!” Good luck and have fun. Maybe start a build thread, so the rest of us can have a little fun along with ya!
