Default Neon Monokote??

Help! I started to cover my 4* 60 with NEON PINK Monokote(Barbie for my daughter). The first thing I noticed was that when heated and pulled the color seems to seperate and the white underside shows through. Also the big question. There is a caution sticker on the roll that states "The possibility of discoloration is characteristic of all neon materials when exposed to ultraviolet sunlight". I can not find any notes on Tower or Top Flite stating this. What's this thing going to look like after a few sunny days? This is my first build and I've put a lot effort into prepping this for covering. Not sure what to do now. Might have to re-evaluate my color scheme. Or should I just fly in the dark? Thanks for you help.

Thats correct on neon. It will fade considerable but If you keep it in the shade or covered when in the sun it will look fine for a few years. The only issue will be if you need to patch it after a season the color difference will be very noticable. I have covered a few plans in Neon and its a great look!! Go for it. Hide the seams or cover them with a trim color to minimize the seperation/white undercolor. Im covering a Supersporter now in metalic purple, white and neon pink, looks cool and really stands out at the field.

i also tried to cover with neon monokote and it didnt stick very well at all.
blemishes apeared really easy so i decided to peal it all off and start covering with regular monokote.

I like neons, but there not very forgiving. for future reference, i would go with ultracote for bright colors. Not to start a war, cause i use them both, but I think the brights are better with UC.

I'm an Ultra person myself but when I was looking for A Neon they didn't have one and the Mono chrome or silver sticks and shrinks better then the Ultra. This is A good thread, I didn't know that the Neons were effected by the UV rays so I have had to do A rethink on my Neon Yellow.

ultracote flourescents suck. 2 reasons. first the ultracote neons fade MUCH faster than the monokote neons. 2nd the glue releases on the ultracote leaving ugly blemishes. this happens VERY fast as in the first day out.

monokote neons are much better and they last a lot longer but are terrible to put on. the heat needed to activate the glue is so close to the amount of heat that causes the ugly effects is crazy. The solution here is to either adhear the neon to the underside of the joining color or windex the neon on. I have also used my iron but it took me so long to find the perect tempurature and it has still caused uglies. I used windex to put it on my somethin extra and I am VERY pleased. I ran out and had to use some ultracote on the ailrons to finish the scheme and the fade on the ultracote is really noticable but the monokote looks as good as the day I put it on. I have a good 500+ flights on her and I have left her in the sund for hours at a time.

Don't use the neons as the main color, use them as trim colors.
