Agman, a friend of mine had the GP Decathalon and it was the worse flying airplane he ever had. He is a master builder and flyer so I know the fault did not lie with him. He added a gyro on the rudder just so he could get a straight take off run. There was a post on RCU and alot of guys had problems also, like snaps and such. I would look for another Decathalon kit to build. Maybe GP knew there was problem and stop kitting it for that reason.

I heard that all Decaths and Citabrias are terrible flyers. I just want to bash it with barn doors and wingtips, get it close to scale as I can, and hang it up. Maybe try to fly it later. I think they are beautiful airplanes and everyone should have one in their hangar. Thanks for your replys.

RE: Decat
Agman,
I have a Pilot Citabria in the box if you are interested for $80 plus shipping. Pilot made some of the most scale aircraft kits ever to be produced. I built the Great Planes Decathlon and it is incredibly overbuilt and it flies like a rock. You can build the Pilot kit in half the time and ease and it will look twice as nice. Let me know if you are interested and I will send you some pictures. Thanks Very Much.

A friend of mine has a Super Decathlon (40 size). He flew it only 1 afternoon and it is now hanging up in his garage as a display. The plane would ground loop horribly. It seemed it was so touchy that all he had to do was breathe and it would loop. He said he had better planes to fly anyway, so it hasn't moved from the garage in almost 1 1/2 years. Sure didn't sell me on getting one.

RE: Wanted
Mine had the same problen till I put a 12-6/10 prop on the Saito .56, a washer under the left two motor mount bolts, and 40% exponential on the rudder (Hitec Eclipse 7)as well as decresing the rudder travel by 1/4 inch. I set the "Toe-In" on the landing gear also. It now takes off it a dead straight line like it's on rails!
I've always found that some "builders" spend a lot of time ether building or just "slapping a plane together" and not taking the time to finish the job by setting, adjusting and trimming properly or just relying on the "building manual" in the shop but not "completeing" the plane by test flying and adjusting".

RE: Decat
I've got one thats about 10 years old. Linkages started wearing out, servos not recentering so its in the recovering stage now. All the bad press is basically true but this plane can be tamed. Its mostly the throws and like was said earlier, tow-in on the gear. I use 3/16" on the elevator and rudder and 1/4" on the ailerons. Set this up for the low rates and double it for high rates. This plane is a wild demon on high rates, tons of fun and incredably snappy. I've got floats for it now and will try that later after some other projects are cleared out. Its getting an all new fabric covering, fiberglass gear, fiberglass cowl and I'll actually put the wheel pants on this time.

Yes I still have it if you are interested. $75 plus shipping. It's a great kit. I have three other Super Decathlon kits in the works so I am able to part with this one. My home number is 401-769-6771 and my home email is [email protected]
