Default Utra Sport 40 Nose weight

I'm building the GP US40 with a OSFX .46. The instructions call for a CG of 4' from the LE. The plane seems to require 2 1/2oz of nose weight added along with a higley heavy hub? Is this normal? I've moved the battery as far front near the firewall as possible. I'm balancing with a Great Planes CG Balance Machine. Any info on this plane is appreciated

Kenny,
Two and a half ounces isn't really that much in this case. If you've already moved everything forward that you can you'll be fine with this .

Are you building the ARF or the kit? I thought i saw a similar post saying the plane was the arf...

I built a US40 (kit) using a YS 63 w/o a muffler, which is near the same weight as the os .46, and didn't need any weight at all. I put the battery right on the CG. I built my plane completely stock, except for retracts. I guess the retracts put a little weight forward of the CG, but not much. The dry weight of my US40 is 5lbs even. But putting 3+ oz in the nose isn't so bad, this plane will handle it just fine.

Hey Queasyflyer:

I had a weight balancing issue with mine as I was building but not the additional weight you need. I just placed a 1000 MA battery pack under the fuel tank and she balanced right on the CG. I have an Enya 45CX in the nose with a header and tuned pipe............maybe all that added up to the needed weight to balance her. Total weight at 5.5 lbs with mechanical retracts, 6 servos, and a 1000 ma battery pack.
