Default House of Balsa kits

Hi.... I finally got to the stage where i want to build my own kit. I was searching and found a nice P51 mustang kit with laser cut balsa and the instructions at the House of Balsa.

The completed picture looks to scale ( as far as i can tell from one picture )

I was just wondering if anyone has ever built a kit from they guys.

Any info or experiences with these kits is appreciated.

THanks

Are you refering to the electric version?, as far as I know, the glow version is still traditional construction with die crunching.

I love HOB kits. They have excellent wood and pre-cut parts. I have the P-51, but haven't started it yet. I've built the 2X2 glider, PT-19, Stick .10, and Float Plane .10. All great kits.

Take care,
Larsen

HOB kits are great for a new builder. I've built a few and have a few kits on the shelf. I find them to be good kits with good instructions that produce good flying planes - exactly what you want from a first kit. They tend to be overbuilt and you can cut out a lot of unneeded weight without compromising the structure.

I have built the HOB Mustang... good kit but smaller than I would suggest for a first build. A full 40 size, like the Great Planes P51 might be a better end product and handle wind a bit better. The HOB Extra is excellent (built 2) but not for a beginner by any means. They are good quality kits but agree with the comment that they carry un-necessary weight and are overbuilt.

As mentioned, it is a good build with a good looking finished project. As for being scale, it looks good. They do fly real well, however takeoffs can be a bit tricky. Good Luck, Dave

Thanks for all the feedback..... This size is perfect for us ( my son and I ) since we only fly at the local park. The park is about 400ft. by 500 ft. maybe a bit larger.

Like i said, we are new to the whole rc world, just got into it for my son in the spring of last year. Spent lot of $$$ but we are now at the stage where repairs are almost obsolete. I did say almost.

Thanks again and if anyone has other kits around that size ( 40 to 50 inches ) which they would like to comment on, i would appreciate it.

The HOB PT19 is a great slow flyer and might be easier to get in and out of a small field.

Look at SIG's web site. http://www.sigmfg.com
Under Aircraft
Aircraft - RC Kits
In all categories except sailplanes they have models from Herr that are small. A few of the SIG kits are small but most are not. You can order directly from SIG.
