Hey,
Well some good personal news, I'm going to be a dad, birth expected November 8.
Bad news is that in the last two weeks, we where busy going to baby-shops, the doctor, ...
So no work done on the Elder...
I'm still waiting on my ordered parts. Hope to have them next week.
I'm gonna try to do some work over the weekend.
Mistermnkim, how is yours comming?
Phil

Hey,
Well, went to the LHS but my order still hadn't arrived. Probably 2 more weeks...
This weekend I did a bit of work on the wing. I wanted to tap the holes to hold the wing down, but didn't get a good result. So now I'm gonna install blind nuts. I cut the cockpit in the wing and sheeted the bottem (to give back some strenght to the wing) and the sides. Will post a pic this evening.
Then I started on the wingtips, I didn't have enough leftover from the LE, so I'm gonna have to sand a piece to shape.
I hope to get a lot done this week. I really want to finish this plane. Flying-season has arrived

The wingtips are on. Making a new leading edge was easy with the multi-contour sander from GreatPlanes.
I set myself a goal. I want to finish the plane (fly-ready) by april 25th. And if it's good weather, maiden on april 26th. It will be challenging...
Mistermnkim, where are you?

Hey mistermnkim / mark,
Sorry to hear about your loss. I wish you strength in this difficult time!
Maybe you can work on the Elder for some distraction?
Last night I finished the wingtips, put the blind nuts in for the wingbolts, made the servo-tray and started on the wing to fuse fairing. next week I will be spakling and fine-sanding the entire airframe.
Hope my orders arrives next week...

Hey,
Mark, looking good!!
Couldn't do much on the Elder this weekend. I finished the wing to fuse fairing.
Won't be able to work on it today.
Hope to get back going again tomorrow.
Still haven't heard from my order... getting nervous
I'll try to post some pictures next time.

Well my order from Top Flite is in backorder and my order from Williams Brothers will be a few more weeks...
Looks like my finishing date of april 25th is in trouble...
Started filling all the dents and imperfections and fine-sanding with 320 gritpaper.
The rudder and fin are done and ready for covering.
Hope to finish the stab and elevators tonight.
This weekend I'm gonna cover these parts to give my arm a rest off all the sanding ;-)
Seem to keep forgetting to take pics...

Hey,
Didn't do much the last few days...
Since I'm not gonna be ready for my deadline (due to my order which still hasn't arrived...) the pressure is off...
Did do some more filling and sanding all over the plane.
The stab, elevators, fin and rudder are done and ready for covering.
Yesterdag started covering the stab. Only had time to do one side, but hey it's looking good!
I'm covering with Solartex and it's a dream! So easy to go around courners and curves, you just gotta take some time to do a neat job.

Hey Mark,</p>
glad to see you're still on the project. The electrics have really developed the last few years, wish you best of luck with it! Are you gonna fly before you're birthday?</p>
My order has partially arrived. I have the spoke wheels and the woorden props, but still missing my pilot and gun. Didn't do much in the last month, now I'm out of Solartex, as is the LHS. So waiting some more...</p>

Really enjoying your builds guys, I'm 80% complete as well and was wondering what your finishing the open box section with (paint type or stain). Also, does solartex need priming before painting. Keep up the good work, Nick

Hey NoelRue,
Very nice build!! I
s that the OS 56 FSa? I too have that engine for the plane and have the Top Flite wooden props as you do. What do you think of the props? I think they will break easily, so I'm gonna break in and maiden with a regular APC prop, before I put on the nice wooden prop.
What did you use to adapt the wheels to the landing-gear wire? I assume that the wire is smaller than the hole in the wheels, as it is with mine.
Keep us posted of the maiden!!

Thanks Phil<div>
</div><div>Yes it is the osa 56 fsa - sounds great fired it up for the first time yesterday... proceeded to break a piece of the prop though (yeah they do break very easily so agree with your thoughts of using a APC prop first).</div><div>
</div><div>Didn't have to modify the hubs on the wheels, they are 4mm in diameter..I rather used an old style way of attaching the wheels which reflects how it would have been done in the early days. I took a 4mm piece of Bronze tubing and cut it slightly larger than the axle length.. cut about 5mm off the axle and then solder the tube to the axle. Next take washers that will fit over the bronze tube solder this as a stop for the wheel to butt up against, put the wheel on then another washer, drill a hole big enough through the tube for a cotter pin and secure. Hope this makes sense - if you need more info let me know.</div><div>
</div><div>Post some pics of the progress of yours.</div><div>
