Speedboy,
Thanks for the offer but our company project is finished there so I dont think I will get down there again anytime soon. Looks like you have a nice place to fly there.
The locals treated us well, Id visit again.
I found a Learjet 40 hanging from a ceiling at a hobby shop I visited today, Ill post the pictures when i get on my home computer tonight.

Here are the pictures of the Learjet I spied at Hobby Hangar in Chantilly, VA 1 exit south of Dulles Aiport on 28.
Asking 300$ The covering is pretty wrinkled and it is missing the belly pan from the bottom of the wing.

The last pic was an F-5 I do not know the manufacturer but it was AMAZING looking. Perfect in every way. No, I did not purchase the Lear, I already have one right?

Nothing wrong with having 2 LJ's, but at $300 and missing parts that cannot be replaced it is a good thing that you did not buy it, with no motor and missing parts it is probably worth no more than 100.
I also like the F-5, you are right, that thing is sweet!! That one would have looked good sitting next to your LJ

Those are some pretty nice looking jets! And not too bad on pricing either.

Very true nothing wrong with having two of these LJs, i have 3 by the way. Here we have another prefect example to get top end dollar for one of these airplanes, No way it's worth anything close to there asking price, especially as Pat said with missing parts. I don't why people ask soo much for these LJs, doesn't make sense to me, it will hang there forever in hopes to find someone naive who would fall for that price...it's a shame!

Who knows maybe they had the part in the box in the back, Im just saying it wasnt installed. It'd be worth more if it were uncovered and had the belly fairing. Then 200$ should be easily attainable to the right buyer.
HP,
Those little turbines are fantastic, I had not seen those yet. Wow, I can think of a lot of planes to use those in. Too bad they cost $3,000 a piece. If I had $7K to spend, I'd be buying a new motorcycle or put the 7K toward a full scale plane.

If I had the money I would have one just for the cool factor, imagine paying $80 for the lj kit and then adding 7k worth of engines....sick right!! lol

Yes, it would be very cool. It would not take much work to make them work on this model but the cg would require a lot of weight in the nose.
Today....more sanding and sanding and sanding.

RE: Learjet .40 Build
I have made a little more progress. The belly pan is installed, retract wells built, ice boots added ti fin and stab, window and door decals added to left side. I still need to sand the wing, finish the nacelles, tip tanks, and cover the wing.

I hope mine turns out half that nice. It looks like you had to trim a little from the middle TE of the wing. I did that also.
Only thing I would point out is it looks like your american flag is on the wrong side of the fin. The flag should always appear as though it is blowing in the wind. Thats why its painted "backwards" on full-scale airplanes so it "blows" properly in the relative wind. Just some useless information.
Amazing job, are the nacelles giving you any difficulty?

Thanks Chris.....I'm sure yours will turn out very nice also. As far as the trimming of the middle of the te, I have been seeing other lj's that have the same, I thought I messed something up when I first fit the wing, maybe a design flaw? I looked at the flags and immediately fixed them. I like little details like that, so its not really useless info! I have a few isues with the nacelles. First, right after reading the directions I immediately cut 2 slots for the same side so I had to patch the piece back in and cut the correct slot, and I mixed a batch of bondo with too little hardener so it is like sanding rubber, I am also having a little trouble with the seams holding together.

What did you glue the seams with? I'm not suprised they are troublesome and thats the part I am dreading. At least I can put them off until last.
The more pictures I see of your covering job the more I am impressed with those stripes!

Thanks! I used Plastruct Bondene. Ambroid Proweld will work too.

An update on the LJ, I need to finish up the tip tanks and the engine nacelles, balance it, apply threadlock where needed, and do an inspection. Chessie is doing her inspection, she approves!

Stunning. Absolutely awesome. I'm starting to wish I did mine in rectract gear.
My build has stalled out. I need to get off my rear and work on mine now that its warm enough to sand outside in the garage.

Thanks! I was waiting on the same thing to sand the wing, and luckily I had a few warm days that were too windy to fly.
