don't forget about my friends at [link=http://www.wingmfg.com]wing manufacturing[/link] who are still making kits! Dan at Wing can also cut foam cores to your spec & also does vacuum forming.

I don't think it was a question of more time I think it was who was in the hobby 25yrs ago, When I joined my first club and started building I was the youngest guy in the club at 30 ,Back then most of the guys who were building were retired ..And of course the cost, this is not a kids hobby....

I'd like to know what happened to Mosquitobite Planes. Their T-Rex was one of the best kits I've ever built and the plane remains a great flyer. They still have a website up, but no activity in a looong time. If anybody knows, please let me know.

As far as the "time to build" debate goes, IMHO it's a matter of time management. You MAKE your building time. I work full time (combination shift and day work), am active in church and civic groups, support the local Philharmonic, play in a folk music group, sing in my church choir, am remodeling a house AND I still have time to build and (sometimes) fly. I don't watch a lot of TV, but when I do I quickly get the idea that I'm not missing much.

In the end, it depends on what your priorities are and how you deal with them.

How about www.radicalrc.com
Yeah, their kits are small, but they go together very nice and quick too. Good for those of us with short attention spans[&:]

Great thread! Jumping back into the hobby after a long hiatus and have been likewise disappointed by the proliferation of ARF/RTF's. It used to be that another pilots plane was something unique and had (sometimes literally) their fingerprints all over it. Today, a lot of them are "meh..." walk-away's because they bought that flawless covering job from a factory.

Anyways, nice resource for kit builders. Thanks!

Wow! there is a lot of good info for kit builders in this thread. As long as Balsa USA and Ziroli stay in business I'm OK. I know Ziroli does not provide kits, but you can have a kit cut for his blueprints:-) I think that maybe smaller, the supply of kits will be always there as long as there is a demand. Modelers come in all shapes and flavors. Kit building is not dead, it is not dying, heck, it's alive and well!

Andy Lennon was involved with that company (I think), and he passed away several months ago. Maybe that has something to do with the inactivity. I've been wanting to get one of their Tri-Pacers. []

I'd personally enjoy building a 1/3 scale Hall's Bulldog kit. I'd think designed for a 50cc gas engine and a $500 price point would be a good place to start. It should be stressed for full aerobatics, have a scale airfoil and all the difficult bits made of fiberglass for durability. Thanks for asking.

Free Bird I was lucky to find one of the Tri-Pacer kits from a fellow flier in Canada. I started on the build yesterday and can only say what a shame they are no longer producing. The kit is awesome and the Laser cutting is so precise the parts fit together as they claim. "Fast Fit" I have the wing framed out dry fitted as described and you have to see it to believe. You can move it with out glue and it holds.

I'd love to have a cessna 180 in a 71" to 76" span. An optional float set would be neat.
