Default Clipped Wing Kadet Sr.?

I have a partly completed Kadet Sr. with the wing built and covered with Koverall and sealed with 3 coats of nitrate dope. It is full span (78in), built flat with ailerons and the slant tips as shown on the Kadet plans. I am thinking of clipping the tips and one bay off each end to kill some of the floatiness of the design. I want to end up with a sorta scale Taylorcraft that still functions as a docile trainer. If I clip it, then I can also put rounded tips on, close to the Taylorcraft arrangement. Power will be an ST46, flying field elevation is over 3500ft.

Any reason to not do it?

Thanks,
Mark

Default RE: Clipped Wing Kadet Sr.?

I've not ever clipped a Senior Kadet but I have clipped an Avistar and a GB Eagle and I think if you just clip one bay from each end expecting it to not be as floaty , your wasting your time. I don't know how much but IMHO you will have to clip a lot more than one bay to get the wing loading high enough so that it doesn't "float". Clip it enough to get the look you want and install some small servo controled spoilers on top of the wing, that will definitely stop any floatiness. One of our club members has installed two small 1"x6" spoilers on top of the wing , closer to the center than the end, and when deployed the plane just stops and will fall out of the air at less than nearly full throttle. I would not have believed it but I have seen him do it to many times, so I know it works.
