Most lock it straight unless the scale is big enough to really do well. SE5s have a real stearable skid, but Camels only wiggeled a couple of degrees. When people do it they do it like the real plane.

I didn't realize WWI had steerable tails? From the pic the detail looks great on the build.

the image uploaded is a sopwith pup from museum or replica..... i realize ww1 need absolutely the tail sterable for move from stop but they do not need wheel because ww1 planes had short take off and landing how you can see on the image the tail is linked directly to the cockpit not to the rudder to prevent damage to the rudder

It splices into the rudder control cables; new planes still do that. No wheel because they used the skid as a brake; up elevator would dig it in the ground to stop the plane.

My Feedback: (-1)
Breaking was one of the main reasons for them, also shock absorbing. They did very little turning on the ground. The pit crew would point them into the wind and off they went. They came up on step almost at once then it was all rudder. Landing they got as close to the hangers as they could then the ground crew came out with the tail dollys and pulled them into ther hanger or parking area. My big surprise when I got into WW1 bipes was there lack of throttle on most of them. Those were some outstanding pilots just to get them off the ground.

Hey guys,
let the ideas come please!!
I just recently came interested in WW1, have a BUSA 1/4 Pup in the box, where I definitely want a suspended and steerable tailwheel.
For practice I'm building the Top Flite Elder 40 which normaly has a music wire skid. Don't care for it much...
I would love to make a nice looking suspended, steerable hard wood skid. [8D]

Hey Guys,
i'm working to realize a sterable tail skid but not linked to the servo because my 1/6 s.pup is finished with not sterable anyway it can be linked because it can move left and right; at moment i made one softer but not sterable (sorry the image not clear i've damaged camera) i used a steel ball and small pliers for woman hair all soldered

On grass, there is no real need for a steerable skid; it will slide pretty good and a blip of throttle and some down elevator and you can turn easy and the real planes had to do it anyway. If you are on pavement and have to taxi you can imbed a small wheel. I find it easer to use the skid as normal and take off into the wind.
