Default Astro Hog

Well it's been a long project, Hope to get her balanced
before this weekend. I moved my Rx battery forward yesterday
and will check the balance today. The Saito 82 is off my GP Stick
and currently has a APC 13x6 prop on it. Thinking a 14x4w might
be better for this plane ? Any who, here's some pics,

Bob

Hi, dign...your HOG looks real nice! I like the "clean" look though that gal you've got set to fly 'er kinda looks like a "dog" [8D]. I too am getting a plan/scratchbuild Astro-Hog finished. Everything is built and I'm thinking of going with a Solartex finish. Went with the taildragger setup via the Sig parts. Your landing gear looks GOOD on that plane...I may go ahead and try that on mine. I could just cover over the gear mounts in the wing and they'd be ready in case I decided to go that route later. Good luck on your flights!!

Soft landings.

Thanks Joe,

Her name is Harley lol. I too installed
and covered the hardwood gear blocks
in the wing, just in case. The gear on her
now is good ole DuBro. The covering is
21 century Fabric with Teal MK trim,

Great looking plane !!! Nothing like building one from sticks!! Sleak & clean. Although ya didn't have to show that background in your 3rd pic. Makes me remember how beautifull it is down there. I lived in Asheville for 16 yrs. It's Gods Country !!!!!!! Good luck on your maiden.

Yea, I studied that background shot for quite awhile and was thinking it'd be REAL tough to live there...I haven't traveled much in North Carolina but that may have to change. And, they have some great lookin' Hogs there too .

Soft landings.

Thanks guys,

Yep it is a great place to live. I was
born in Orlando long before the Rat
came to town. It got tooo crowded
down there for me. Been here 15
years now. If you like old fashion
Country living, this is the place.

Nice HOG!!!! I built mine a couple of years ago, and am planning on building a new wing with less dihedral, and "barn door ailerons".

It is a nice, sweet flying plane, enjoy!!

Thanks Dave,

I'm hoping to take it to the field later
today and do some taxing test. Then
find a helper to check the balance.

I think it is still tail heavy and it's crowding
8 Lbs. as it sits right now.

I have been trying to check the balance upright
and not inverted. Anybody have any input ??

Bob: I have always had much better luck, when balancing a low wing aircraft model, to balance it inverted on a balance stand. I use the Great Planes balance stand now and it is so easy to work with. Once I have it "dialed in" there are no balance issues at the field. Go with the inverted method, my friend, and you'll find it much less trouble.

Soft flandings.

Nice Astro!

I fly mine with a YS63 and 13/6, and has enough power for sport flying, in my opinion a 14/4 is not neccesary.

Good luck with maiden flight.

Thanks Carlos,

I'm going to stay with the 13x6 prop. Still waiting for the
rain to go away.

I really need to build another "Hog". I built this one about 14 or 15 years ago. Have regretted selling it most every day since.
