Paul T, nice to hear from you again! You're still "in the business"? How are things going in Australia? We got another four inches of snow on Saturday. It's all gone now and I'm not complaining.

Hello

I am glad to see that there are some who are still interested in this thread.

I have not done much building this winter.  Our club found a place to fly inside.  I have started the butterfly.  The tail feathers are finished along with the fuselage.  I extended the noise about 2 inches and rounded the corners on the horizontal stabilizer.  also on the vertical stabilizer.

I will try to get some pictures later.

hI littlegnome you have the same idea as I had, I added 1- 1/2 inches plus I put about 5 deg of down thrust to the engine mount. I would need to measure the amount of down thrust but all flew better than the standard set up. Lets here more as you go.

Well this is what it looked like when it was newly finished back in 2009. So over the next few weeks its in the Shop for a re-fit .As always so many models on the way,so what's one more.I intend to do the wings first so last night I removed the old covering of both wings. There are a few ribs that need some work and some sheeting in the centre section that I will need to replace. Photos on the way.
The model has had a great life so far and if I intend to keep it it needs this type of love as I'm sure it will fly for ever with a little love and attention. Yours Paul T

Now that I have several bottles of glue, I have to stop making excuses and get building. The middle one is particularly interesting, it says 'Universal Activator'. Maybe if I sprayed some on myself I would start building. (It could come in handy at work as well, I could use it on my pupils when they're lazy).

Anyway, I have a covering question. How about transparent covering - the clear type with no colour, and some brightly coloured bands around the tail and wing tips? Would it be difficult to see? All my previous sailplanes looked like they were black at altitude, regardless of colour, but if it's transparent?

I started building the fuselage today! There hasn't been room for any building in a while, but now I have set up a building table in the shed, and I can finally do some building. As you can see in the photo, the fuselage sides are warped from lying in the shed for two years, but I think they will be fine when everything is glued together over the plans.

Photo #2 shows my new electric sander. I have two things to say about those: 1) Why didn't I buy one years ago - it would have saved hours of sanding. 2) I must be getting old (at 36).

Wonders will never stop. At this rate "Sandle" you will be in your 60s for the first flight. Now not much has been going on with my Butterfly either. As I have 2 I still fly the other which I did a week ago.As for the resteration job I'm thinking about the colours and such,I was wondering if I should go with MonoKote due to the selection.of shades. I have always found it impossible to use but its around 3 years since I tryed.so maybe I've got better at it now.
Wings have been fixed but some old colour is still in the wood so the selection of light ones will be limited. I might paint the surfaces to make it even in the same shade.
Sandle great to see the camera in use also keep up the effort and see the project through.

Well, I am building up a kit stock pile. A couple months ago, I bought another Piece o cake kit. Tonight I just won a Marks Model Mini bird of time. My next kit that I am looking for is the Craft-air windrifter 100" I also have a Dynaflite skeeter kit, and a Craft-air Stepp two kit. All kits I plan on having electric motors installed.

Earl So good to see you back, and spending. I have a AM 25 (2-5 cc) Diesel that I may fit to one of the butterflys just for fun.I need to get a timer to limit the engine run as there is no throttle. One butterfly is in the shop being re covered, I did have some other ideas but as other projects are now got my intrest Butterfly rebuilds are on hold. Things have not changed at least 10+ on the build not to mention the re builds. Hope all is well Yours Paul T

Did some more work on the wings today its now totaly repaired and read to cover. going with a deep or dark pink and a cub yellow the darker shade will post the photo when I get there. may be a blue joining strip to do the finish. I intend to do one wing and see what it looks like.
I also need to pull the fuselage out of the repair pile and look at the rear section as the ply seperated when it had the four winter weeks on a bush block when lost a few years back.. The front is repaired and lengthed with more down thrust built in.(my way of reducing the lift when under power in flite.Would like to here from you Earl ,Tailskid and sandal along with other Butterfly builders and flyers of this classic Yours paul T

Nice to see another Green Machine out there! Here is mine from about 35 years ago now. Am subscribing to this thread as Butterflys are such great planes. Had so much fun learning on one and then flying the pants off it.

I've found that pink turns into grey as the altitude increases....just a comment.

Gee, I don't know! It wasn't a large plane but it taught me to never do it again...could be my vision too.
I lost that plane on a fly away...never to be seen or heard from again.

Sebo they do like to go walkabout from time to time. The time I lost mine I new it was close to the take off point as I was using Hitec gear and had a reciever voltage on my screen but it took about 4 weeks to find.Went straight out and orded a telementry unit now have where and hight readings and speed at my finger tips. Its a great aircraft I like to fly one every week.
Thailazer I see your in Thiland welcome in to the world of butterflys, even if its 35 years late. Its 1AM so off to bed.
